Dunlop tyres win every solo race at Isle of Man TT

  • Dunlop riders win six of six solo races at Isle of Man TT
  • Peter Hickman wins four races, including prestigious Senior TT
  • 14 of 18 podium finishers chose Dunlop tyres

Dunlop tyres won all six solo races at the long-awaited return of the Isle of Man TT Races, including a historic victory in the headline Senior TT race for Dunlop rider Peter Hickman on Saturday. In total, Dunlop tyres were the tyre of choice for 14 of 18 podium finishes across the six races.

Delayed by weather conditions, the six-lap Senior TT took place on Saturday for a total race distance of 226.38 miles of the Isle of Man Snaefell Mountain Course. Riding his BMW M1000RR, Peter Hickman led every mile of the race en route to his second Senior TT victory. After 1 hour, 45 minutes of flat-out racing through country lanes, historic villages and town centres, he crossed the finish line 16.918 seconds clear of his closest rival, finishing a winning week for Dunlop and the D213 GP Pro tyre.

Fellow Dunlop rider Conor Cummins finished Saturday’s race in third, narrowly beating his Milenco by Padgett’s Motorcycles Honda teammate Davey Todd by under three seconds. With a winning week for both Peter Hickman and Michael Dunlop, Dunlop tyres were the tyre of choice for winners in every other solo race.

In the Superbike race which kicked off proceedings a week earlier on Saturday 4 June, Peter Hickman stated his intentions early with a win on the same bike he used in the Senior TT. He led an entirely Dunlop podium ahead of Dean Harrison and Michael Dunlop.

Michael Dunlop was king of the 600cc Supersport class, winning both races on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Hickman finished third in the opening race and second in the other Supersport contest.

Hickman won the other two races: Superstock and Supertwin. In the former, reserved for near-showroom spec 1000cc bikes, he finished ahead of the two Padgett’s Hondas of Conor Cummins and Davey Todd. In Wednesday’s Supertwin race, Hickman raced his Paton S1-R to finish ahead of Lee Johnston.

Dunlop brought the treaded D213 GP Pro tyre for use in all classes. With Dunlop’s extensive experience of decades of success and wins on the 37.7-mile Isle of Man Mountain Course, the Dunlop Motorsport team decided to use this tyre confident that it would offer riders both an appropriate level of performance and proven safety.

Wim Van Achter, Motorsport Manager, Dunlop: “Congratulations to every Dunlop rider who achieved a podium finish at the TT, and thank you to all Dunlop customers in the paddock for their faith and confidence in our tyres. We’re looking forward to continuing applying our learnings and success in road racing, as well as endurance racing, to the development of the next generation of Dunlop tyres.

“The Isle of Man TT is a unique challenge but, as the most successful tyre brand in the history of this long-standing event, we had the experience and data to show that using D213 GP Pro would be a suitable solution. We’re proud to have won every solo race this week, and we’ll take our learnings from TT 2022 as part of our continuing research and analysis.”

The TT caps off a successful week for Dunlop which included wins for the KR108 and KR109 slick tyres at the 24H SPA EWC Motos round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, where BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team took overall victory.
