Goodyear designs rugged concept tire for Toyota Aygo X prologue

Goodyear develops concept tire with rugged design and performance for Toyota’s crossover concept

Toyota has presented its latest concept vehicle, the Aygo X prologue, fitted with Goodyear tires featuring bespoke laser-carved sidewalls. The small crossover represents Toyota’s vision for the future of the A-segment in the coming years and is the latest in a series of collaborations between Toyota and Goodyear on innovative concept projects dating back to 2003.

Hans Vrijsen, Managing Director OE, Goodyear EMEA says: “Goodyear is proud to partner with the pioneers who are shaping the future of mobility. We have collaborated with Toyota for some 18 years on their concept vehicles and are delighted to be able to deliver yet another bespoke tire to support their vision for the future of the A-segment.”

Crossovers are a growing proportion of the European car market. These vehicles aim to capture the best of both worlds by delivering the agility and versatility of small cars, but offering the space, comfort and ruggedness of larger SUV type vehicles.

Toyota’s Aygo X prologue vehicle is a perfect illustration of this trend, bringing a bold reimagining of the A-segment. The Aygo X prologue’s bold, eye-catching design mixes fun with added edginess. It expresses attitude with a strong stance and improved ground clearance for all road conditions.

Among the Aygo X prologue’s headline design features is its Hexagon DNA, which brings a new expression for the fog lamps, lower grille and tail lamps. Working closely with Toyota’s designers, Goodyear has brought this look into the Tread Pattern and the Sidewalls of the tires, too, but the tires bring much more to the Aygo X prologue than just a striking design.

Vrijsen adds: “Goodyear developed a bespoke laser-carved sidewall design for the Aygo X prologue. The result is a tire with tough looks and equally rugged performance to fit the design and functionality of the Toyota Aygo X prologue.”

With its innovative Hexagonal Sipes and laser-carved sidewall that mirrors the vehicle’s Hexagon DNA, the tire has a premium look and ensures design consistency with the Aygo X prologue.

Lance Scott, Design Director at Toyota Europe Design Development, adds: “As previously, we enjoyed a creative collaboration with the Goodyear design team for the tires of our latest concept car. The dynamic tread pattern and high tech sidewall detailing really captures the spirit of the Aygo X prologue, adding to the stance and dynamic forward motion we aimed for with this design.”

The Aygo X prologue was created at ED2 , Toyota’s European Design Headquarters. Similarly, the tire design was a special project developed by Goodyear’s own Advanced Design Studio.
