Goodyear Racing Notes – ELMS 4 Hours of Portimão
The European Le Mans Series season concludes this weekend with the 4 Hours of Portimão, where Goodyear will supply its Goodyear Racing Eagle tires to all teams competing in the LMP2, LMP2 Pro/Am and LMGT3 categories.
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve provides a fitting setting for the season finale, with its massive elevation changes and technical layout amid the rolling hills of the Algarve expected to result in moderate levels of tire wear and degradation over the four-hour race.
The Goodyear Racing Eagle Medium may support LMGT3 single-stint strategies this weekend, allowing competitors to extract maximum performance throughout the race. In LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am, the Goodyear Racing Eagle Medium specification is designed to deliver the consistency and consistency required for double-stint running.
With titles still on the line across all three Goodyear-supplied categories, tire strategies at the Portimão finale will be decisive. The LMGT3 battle is particularly tight, with just three points separating championship leaders #62 Iron Lynx from #33 TF Sport, while the LMP2 title is also finely poised between #22 United Autosports and #29 Forestier Racing by Panis, who are separated by 13 points. The LMP2 Pro/Am title promises an equally close contest, with the top four teams separated by just six points, led by the #83 AF Corse trio.
The race will also mark the end of the second season of competition with Goodyear Racing’s newest Eagle Medium specification for the LMP2 category. The tire is now well understood by teams, having been used extensively in the European Le Mans Series, and at the past two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Portimão is a fitting place to bring the European Le Mans Series season to a close,” said Stephen Bickley, Goodyear Endurance Program Manager. “The undulating circuit combines dramatic elevation changes with high-speed corners and more twisty, technical sections, so we expect moderate levels of tire wear and degradation. It looks like a hot and sunny race awaits us on Sunday, but should wet weather arrive, teams do have Goodyear Racing Eagle wet tires available.”
The Portimão race will mark the final outing for the current Goodyear Racing Eagle specification in LMGT3, ahead of the introduction of a new, more sustainable generation of Goodyear Racing Eagle specifications1 from 2027.
Bickley added: “It is significant that the LMGT3 field will use our current Goodyear Racing Eagle slick specification for the final time in the series this weekend. Next season, we will introduce a new generation of tires with 66%1 sustainable-material content2, continuing our focus on performance at the highest level of endurance racing.”
Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend in the NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and in the British Touring Car Championship season finale at Brands Hatch.
