Summary

Both Goodyear and Dunlop receive top classification, with Fulda and Sava rank strongly among value and budget brand competition.

Goodyear winter tires achieve ADAC podium

Awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, Goodyear brands impress in the latest ADAC winter tire test, which is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in Europe.

ADAC is Europe’s largest automobile association, and in its latest test it compares 32 winter tires, 16 representing each of the popular 205/60R161 and 225/45R172 sizes.

The latest ADAC test reveals not only the excellent balanced performance but also the great efficiency of Goodyear winter tires, UltraGrip 9+ and UltraGrip Performance+.

Achieving overall 2nd place, the UltraGrip Performance+ performs exceptionally in the 17-inch test. Experts comment on its strengths: “Safe handling characteristics on dry roads, still good properties on wet roads, very high predicted mileage, low abrasion, good efficiency”. 2

At the same time, Goodyear UltraGrip 9+ finishes overall third in the 16-inch comparison. The experts rank the tire number one for efficiency and praise its strengths: “Safe handling characteristics on dry road surfaces, good performance on wet roads, high predicted mileage, best efficiency in the test.”3

Both winter tires offer Goodyear’s Mileage Plus and Winter Grip technology delivering increased mileage as well as outstanding grip on snowy and icy roads.

Dunlop Winter Sport 5 takes top spot

There is more test success for Dunlop Winter Sport 5, which ranks 1st in the 16-inch fitment test and fourth among the 17-inch comparison.

ADAC testers praise the tire’s characteristics: “A balanced tire, precise and safe properties at the limit on dry roads, safe characteristics on wet roads, high predicted mileage, low weight and fuel consumption.” 1 They also comment on its strengths: “The precise and safe performance when pushed hard on dry roads, with exemplary safety on winter roads, very high predicted mileage, low weight and the lowest fuel consumption.” 1

Dunlop’s range of innovative features, such as the increased number of tread blocks that provide additional gripping edges and superior traction and performance on snow, allowing the tire to have industry-leading performance.

Fulda and Sava tires deliver convincing performance

In addition, Goodyear value and budget brands can convince the ADAC experts, labelling both tires “satisfactory”. In the 17-inch test Sava Eskimo HP2 ranks 11th and is applauded for its strengths: “Safe properties on winter roads, high predicted mileage, low abrasion, very low weight, lowest fuel consumption in the test.”2

Meanwhile, Fulda Kristall Control HP2 places joint 11th in the 16-inch test praised for its strengths: “Precise and safe performance at the limit on dry roads, highest predicted mileage, low abrasion, above-average low weight, low fuel consumption”.1
