Tyre Reviews announces Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 as test winner

  • Top marks for Eagle F1 Asymmetric in 14-tire test
  • Testers describe it as a ‘tyre with almost no weaknesses’
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport earns recommended rating in same test

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 has been declared Test Winner in Tyre Reviews’ summer 2021 ultra high performance (UHP) test, which featured 14 tires in the top-selling 225/40R18 size using a Volkswagen Golf GTI as the test car.

Tester Jon Benson concluded: “The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is a tire with almost no weaknesses. It has excellent grip in the dry and wet, sporty handling, excellent aquaplaning resistance and low rolling resistance. The Goodyear subjectively felt quite sporty, had a stable balance and good braking and turning.

“The Asymmetric 5 was a very well balanced tire, giving you good grip and predictable handling in all directions.”

Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is an ultra high performance tire designed for sports and performance cars of all sizes. Conceived as the ultimate all-round summer tire, Goodyear has used its technical expertise to set new standards in wet braking and dry handling without compromising durability or ride comfort. Goodyear achieved this by developing a highly-refined compound that combines wet weather capabilities without sacrificing endurance or dry handling performance. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 also has low flex in the tread pattern to manage high lateral forces.

Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport wins ‘recommended’ label

In addition to the overall success for the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, Goodyear is also celebrating earning a ‘recommended’ rating for the even more performance-focused Eagle F1 SuperSport in the same Tyre Reviews test.

The motorsport-inspired SuperSport earned Benson’s praise: “The Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport was the master of the dry handling lap, offering the best steering response and good feedback. Truly a road tire you can use on track, excellent dynamic steering with quick reactions and good feedback, and very good heat resistance for a road tire.”

The track performance of the Eagle F1 SuperSport was underlined by not only setting the fastest lap time, but one that was over four seconds faster than another brand fitted to the same car with the same driver. This result comes from motorsport technologies such as Goodyear’s Power Shoulder Technology with a massive closed outside pattern giving agile dry performance and cornering.

Laurent Colantonio, Director Consumer Tire Technology, Goodyear Europe praised the company’s development teams: “To win both the overall test with Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and be recommended as the best performance focused tire with the Eagle F1 SuperSport shows Goodyear’s focus on developing distinct tires to suit the diverse needs of sporty drivers. From the test-winning and well balanced Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, through to Eagle F1 SuperSport and the more track-focused SuperSport R and RS, Goodyear truly has the ultra high performance and ultra ultra high performance sectors covered.”
