Jasikonis wins MXGP race as Dunlop riders excel in Latvia

  • Arminas Jasikonis takes race win in MXGP of Riga
  • Dunlop tyres take several riders to impressive results
  • Partner teams preparing for one more Latvian round

Arminas Jasikonis put on a stellar performance with Dunlop tyres to take a hard-earned race win for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing during the FIM Motocross World Championship’s Grand Prix of Riga on Wednesday.

Dunlop riders throughout the field showed good pace and put on a good show in the second of three consecutive MXGP rounds at Kegums, Latvia, following Glenn Coldenhoff’s impressive Grand Prix victory on Sunday.

The highlight of Wednesday’s racing was Jasikonas’ victory in Race 2, but earlier in the day he set the fastest lap in Race 1, spurred on by the trackside fans from his native Lithuania. Ivo Monticelli (Standing Construct GasGas Factory Racing Team) won the Holeshot in the second race thanks to his superior traction off the line with Dunlop Geomax tyres.

Another noteworthy performance from a Dunlop rider was that of Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team), who had a consistent but rapid run in the first race to climb from 13th to the runner-up spot after some impressive overtakes on the demanding hard sand track.

With his 25 points from today’s win, Jasikonis moves up to fourth in the championship standings. He and Dunlop’s other challengers only have to wait a few days to fight for wins again, with MXGP returning to the same track for a third time on Sunday (16 August).

Eddy Seel, MXGP Event Leader, Dunlop: “We had another result to be proud of today, with several of our riders showing strong pace. Arminas’ win will mean a lot to him and we’re glad to be a part of it, but we can celebrate Monticelli’s Holeshot and Febvre’s charge through the field too. These results are a testament to the Dunlop Geomax MX-33F (front) and MX-12 (rear) tyres used today."
