Grip, handling and steering precision: the new Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 has it all

  • Dunlop introduces New Ultra-High Performance Summer Tire, expert in grip and steering precision
  • Excellent dry handling according to the independent TÜV test results¹
  • Sport Maxx RT2 chosen by Radical for their ultimate supercar

Geneva, March 2016 -- Dunlop launches its new Ultra-High Performance (UHP) summer tire, the Sport Maxx RT2, the successor of the multi-award winning Sport Maxx RT. Endorsed by the independent TÜV test[1] ordered by Dunlop, the tire demonstrates excellent grip and handling and delivers faster test track lap times versus its predecessor[2].

True to the brand’s DNA, the tire has been developed in line with the “Forever Forward” brand philosophy, which is to create exciting driving experiences. In addition to this, Dunlop’s long racing heritage including winning races in open endurance competitions has been a great resource and inspiration to build the new Sport Maxx RT2.

The tire is a true expert when it comes down to grip and steering precision according to the independent TÜV Süd Benchmark Test results¹, making it an excellent tire for situations that demand performance. The test resulted in a 1,3% better lap time than the average of four leading competitors on a wet track and 4,1% better dry handling compared to the average of four leading competitors¹. The tire also proved 5,6% better in the wet circle test¹. Additionally, according to a DEKRA test ordered by Dunlop, the Sport Maxx RT2 delivered 34% better wear performance on the most severe axle, compared to the average of leading competitors[3].

Key technical features:

  • Evolutionary Tread compound, with traction resin based on gum resin for maximum grip on wet and dry roads
  • Large outer shoulder blocks - for enhanced cornering grip compared to its predecessor.
  • Short-braking blocks to reduce braking distances, especially at high speeds, compared to its predecessor.
  • Ultra-tensile breaker cord – providing enhanced road feedback and steering precision compared to its predecessor, inspired by Dunlop’s experience in winning the toughest 24 hour race on the grueling Nurburgring Nordschleife.

“This is the perfect Ultra-High Performance tire for demanding drivers who are seeking ultimate driving experiences”, says Alexis Bortoluzzi, Goodyear Dunlop Marketing Director Consumer Europe. “And the test results confirm we have achieved a strong position in the UHP segment”.

Already, the tire has been chosen as standard fitment on one of the most extreme road cars on sale. Radical, better known for its racing cars, has selected the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 for its 2016 RXC Turbo model. This car is influenced and inspired by the contemporary Le Mans Prototype design and produces over 500 horsepower. Producing racing levels of downforce from its aerodynamically advanced body and wings, the RXC Turbo is designed for serious track use – but with the ability to conquer the most challenging public roads after a hard day on the circuit.

The size line-up ranges from 17 inch to 21 inch (as outlined in the table below), and 80% of the sizes are available in March 2016.
