Petronas Team De Rooy Iveco

Goodyear has been tyre partner to Petronas Team De Rooy Iveco since 2015, first racing on Goodyear tyres at the 2016 Dakar when the team won its class. This sponsorship, which continues, is an excellent way of demonstrating the outstanding performance of standard Goodyear tyres as well as OMNITRAC tyres, which are used on the support vehicles.

Gerard De Rooy and the highly respected Netherlands-based team have competed in the event since 2002 with success; having had a class win in 2016, a 2nd place class finish in 2014 and this year Gerard De Rooy took 3rd place in the Truck Class of the 2019 Dakar Rally with all four of the Petronas Team De Rooy Ivecos finishing in the Top 10 on standard Goodyear Offroad ORD tyres.

The Dakar is considered the toughest race in the world having been held in Africa originally but then moved to South America and next year it will be in Saudi Arabia.

The tyres

Goodyear supplies standard 375/90R22.5 Offroad ORD truck tyres for the four race trucks and standard Goodyear OMNITRAC mixed service tyres for the service trucks, which follow the team for the whole rally. The tyres are unmodified and Goodyear engineers work with the team to calculate the best tyre pressures to use according to the type of terrain they encounter.
