Go Further This Summer: Goodyear Blimp 2021 Tour Revealed
- The Goodyear Blimp is back in European skies after last year’s return
- Blimp to provide aerial coverage at WTCR at Nürburgring
- Other motorsport events to include 24 Hours of Le Mans, PURE ETCR and BTCC
- 7 locations in Europe, including flights over London, Milan and Le Mans
Last year, the Goodyear Blimp returned to European skies. This year, it will be seen in even more places, including the legendary Nürburgring circuit, providing aerial coverage of the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup. After that, the airship will also fly over cities including London, Milan and Le Mans.
The Blimp operating in Europe is a Goodyear-branded Zeppelin NT semi-rigid airship. This model is the largest of its kind in the world today. An international icon, seen in the skies since the 1910s, the tire manufacturer’s brand ambassador not only provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences but is also used for the coverage of major racing events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 2021, the Blimp will be visiting a mix of cities and racing events, allowing motorsport fans across Europe to see it in the sky. Fans will also have opportunities to spot the Blimp during its transfer flights to iconic locations such as London, Milan and Le Mans. Throughout the Blimp’s tour of Europe, a range of special events will take place at select locations to celebrate its arrival.
The Goodyear Blimp’s first appearance will take place on 5 June at the Nürburgring circuit, where it will provide aerial coverage of the WTCR races on the Eurosport channel. Goodyear became the official tire supplier to WTCR last year. Following this, on 24-25 June, the airship will fly from Bonn to London, joining the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) round at Brands Hatch. There, it will provide aerial TV coverage to allow motorsport fans to watch the race from the new perspective, as well as memorable passenger flights over the British capital.
In July, the Blimp will visit Milan and the 6 Hours of Monza as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) on 16-18 July. Then, it will visit Ljubljana in Slovenia (21 July), as well as travel to Wroclaw in Poland, passing Prague, Czech Republic on the way (30 July - 2 August). The Goodyear Blimp will also visit Copenhagen and the groundbreaking PURE ETCR electric touring car race there. The 2021 schedule will conclude at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (21-22 August), where the Blimp will support Eurosport’s extensive live TV coverage.
Piotr Nagalski, Marketing Director Goodyear Europe, said: “Discovery has always been at the heart of the Goodyear brand. After its popular return to European skies in 2020, the Goodyear Blimp will go to more cities and visit more events this year, passing world-famous landmarks along the way. With flights in Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Denmark and Slovenia, the Goodyear Blimp will channel Goodyear’s spirit of going further this summer.”
