Goodyear Racing Notes – BTCC Silverstone (National)

This weekend, Goodyear heads to the home of British motorsport for the penultimate event of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season at Silverstone, where teams will have increased freedom in their choice of Goodyear Racing Eagle tyre allocations, adding to the excitement as the season draws to a close.

The standard tyre allocation for this weekend is the Goodyear Racing Eagle Soft compound, with the Goodyear Racing Eagle Medium compound serving as the option tyre.

Teams will receive two sets of the standard tyre and one set of the option tyre, in addition to three sets of carryover tyres that drivers may have retained from previous rounds. Teams have been strategically managing their carryover allocations since the season began, with the freedom to select from their accumulated tyres adding an extra layer of strategy to this weekend’s sessions.

In addition to the slick tyres used in dry conditions, teams also have access to Goodyear Racing Eagle Wet tyres, which are designed to disperse surface water and provide grip on a wet track.

Silverstone’s National circuit has a distinct right-hand bias, with five right-hand turns and just one left-hander, causing a technical challenge for teams. The short lap and sustained lateral loading places demands on left-hand tyres through sweeping sequences including Woodcote, Copse and Maggotts, meaning tyre management through the course of a race will be crucial.

“With the end of the championship in sight, teams will be putting up a fight at Silverstone to secure the best position they can heading into the final event at Brands Hatch,” explains Michael Butler, Goodyear’s BTCC event leader. “This weekend is pivotal, so drivers will be energised and the track’s relentless, short laps offer plenty of overtaking opportunities. The broadening of tyre strategies available to teams will add another layer to an already competitive weekend, with every point crucial as the season reaches its conclusion.”

Goodyear Racing Eagle tyres are also in action this weekend in the NASCAR races at Kansas Speedway, and in NHRA at Rockingham Dragway.
