Dunlop wins fifth consecutive Women’s Motocross World Championship title

  • Courtney Duncan crowned Women’s Motocross World Champion
  • Dunlop tyres chosen by 9 of 10 last WMX champions
  • First and third in the championship for Dunlop

Dunlop won its fifth consecutive FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship (WMX) title on Saturday when New Zealand rider Courtney Duncan was crowned champion for the third time in as many years.

Dunlop has now been the tyre of choice for nine of the last ten WMX champions, including Duncan, who has won with Kawasaki in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and Italian racer Kiara Fontanesi, who was champion in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Just like in the top MXGP class, and the MX2 category for rising stars, Dunlop’s WMX partner teams have access to a range of Dunlop Geomax motocross tyres. These include the Geomax MX33, a tyre designed for motocross riders of all levels to use on a variety of tracks, from sand to intermediate surfaces.

This year, 25-year-old Duncan won the rounds in the Czech Republic, Turkey and Spain, and finished on the podium in 11 of the 12 heats. Other Dunlop riders Shana van der Vlist and Kiara Fontanesi also won a round each, meaning Dunlop tyres took 5 of 6 round victories in 2021.

Eddy Seel, Event Leader MXGP, Dunlop: “Congratulations to Courtney for her third consecutive WMX championship win. She’s had another season with consistent performance and race-winning pace, so she thoroughly deserves the win. We’re proud of Dunlop’s track record in this increasingly competitive championship, with nine of the last ten world championships being won with Dunlop tyres. This year, Duncan and Fontanesi finished first and third in the championship, and our riders won almost every round.”

While the WMX season has come to an end, the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) campaign is still in full swing. With four rounds left, Dunlop rider Romain Febvre is second in the championship standings for Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team.
