Dunlop riders prove tire performance at Motocross of Nations
Dunlop tires were the choice of riders representing the top two teams at this year’s Motocross of Nations, with Nestaan Husqvarna star Liam Everts helping Team Belgium secure the Chamberlain Trophy for the first time in more than a decade. Jorge Prado and Guillem Farres also delivered strong performances on Dunlop tires to help Team Spain secure a closely fought second-place finish at the storied event.
The battle at the front was decided by just three points, with Everts playing a key role in Team Belgium’s victory. After qualifying second in the Open category on Saturday, the Belgian backed up his performance with fourth-place finishes in both of his contested motos on Sunday.
Team Spain fought hard throughout the weekend, leading the standings after the opening moto before ultimately finishing just three points behind Team Belgium. Two-time MXGP champion Prado took second in both of his races - enough to secure his place at the top of the MXGP standings - while Farres added fourth- and fifth-place finishes to the Spanish team’s tally.
Dunlop also enjoyed success with Team France, with full-season Kawasaki teammates Romain Febvre and Mathis Valin competing in front of their home crowd. Despite difficult races for his teammates, Febvre delivered one of the most impressive individual performances of the day, winning the opening moto before taking third in the final race, in which he also claimed the Holeshot.
Febvre’s strong results saw him finish second in the MXGP class standings, behind Prado, while Farres and Camden McLellan (Team South Africa) occupied the top two positions in the MX2 standings. Everts finished second in the Open category, ahead of fellow Dunlop rider Pauls Jonass (Team Latvia) in third.
Moreover, across qualifying and the main motos, Dunlop riders won three of the six races, while five of the nine top-three finishers across Sunday’s main motos raced on Dunlop tires.
In all, 32 riders representing 16 different nations relied on the traction and control of Dunlop’s Geomax MX34 front tire, designed for soft-to-mid motocross surfaces, and Geomax MX14 rear tire, developed to provide traction on loose surfaces.
The results cap another landmark motocross season for Dunlop, marked by strong performances from riders in both Europe and North America. In the FIM Motocross World Championship, Guillem Farres secured the MX2 championship title and led Triumph Racing to a one-two finish alongside Camden McLellan, while Romain Febvre finished runner-up in MXGP after claiming the championship title with Dunlop last season.
In the United States, Dunlop carried Ken Roczen to his maiden 450cc AMA Supercross title, extending Dunlop’s streak of winning every AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross title since 2010.
Wim Van Achter, Motorcycle Motorsport Manager EMEA, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “It has been a fantastic weekend of racing at the Motocross of Nations, and we congratulate Dunlop rider Liam Everts on the victory with Team Belgium. Team Spain fought hard all weekend, with Jorge and Guillem helping the team fight right to the end for the victory. We’re pleased that so many top riders continue to choose Dunlop Geomax tires, and the results across the field weekend underline the performance of our Geomax MX34 and MX14 products.”
