Dunlop in the title fight as EWC season closes in Czech Republic

  • Dunlop team VRD Igol Experiences in the title fight
  • Several teams looking for final win of the season
  • Brand new track brings a new challenge for all

Dunlop partner team VRD Igol Experiences is fighting for its first FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) title this weekend, heading into the 6 Hours of Most as one of 13 Dunlop-supported teams seeking a victory in the Czech Republic.

After the Bol d’Or 24-hour race last month, the top tier of motorcycle endurance racing brings its season to a close with its first ever visit to Autodrom Most for a six-hour contest this Saturday. A third place in the Bol d’Or propelled VRD Igol Experiences, a Yamaha-supported independent team, to second in the championship. Riders Florian Alt, Florian Marino and Nico Terol are the only trio capable of beating the current championship leaders to the 2021 title.

BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team and Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar will, as ever, be amongst the teams fighting for the overall victory on Dunlop tyres. After a runner-up finish last time, Moto Ain will also be looking for a strong result with a new rider lineup of Randy de Puniet, Loris Baz and Corentin Perolari, as will fellow independent Yamaha outfits Wojcik Racing Team and Maco Racing.

In the ever-competitive Superstock class, No Limits Motor Team is best placed to fight for second in the final standings. The Italian team finished third in class and won the Dunlop Independent Trophy at the Bol d’Or.

A new challenge for all

As a new track on the EWC calendar, the testing and practice sessions ahead of Saturday’s race will be even more important than usual. David Auerbacher, Dunlop’s EWC Event Leader, explains.

“With 21 corners over 4.2km, the Most circuit is a physically demanding lap for the riders, and one that is unfamiliar to most of the paddock. We have our comprehensive range of KR slicks and development tyres to cover a wide range of riding styles and conditions, so we’re confident that each and every Dunlop team will have the tyres they need to unlock the maximum performance from their bike.

“It’s a new challenge for everyone but we’re looking forward to ending a highly competitive EWC season on a high. Several of our partner teams in both classes are in contention for a win, and we’ve got our fingers crossed for VRD Igol Experiences who are looking for their first world championship title, as well as Moto Ain who have an exciting new rider lineup.”

Free practice and qualifying will take place throughout Thursday, with five hours of on-track action scheduled. The six-hour race will get underway at 11:00 local time on Saturday, 9 October.
