CUPRA equips Formentor VZ5 with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport
- CUPRA chooses Goodyear for brand’s most powerful car ever
- Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport UUHP tire selected
- 18-month collaboration between Goodyear and CUPRA
CUPRA has selected Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport as the original equipment (OE) fitment on the most powerful car the Spanish automaker has ever made, the Formentor VZ5.
Producing 390 hp from its 5-cylinder engine, the Formentor VZ5 is CUPRA’s flagship model, leading the Formentor sports crossover range. CUPRA will only build 7000 units of the Formentor VZ5, making this model particularly exclusive.
Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport tires will be fitted to the Formentor VZ5 in 255/35R20 size. For its most powerful model ever, CUPRA requested from Goodyear a UUHP (ultra ultra high performance) tire with excellent dry handling behaviour, short braking distances and very good wet handling. Using the award-winning Eagle F1 SuperSport as a base, Goodyear worked alongside CUPRA for 18 months to develop a tire specifically adjusted for the Formentor VZ5’s requirements.
The tire’s performance credentials are possible due to a number of technical innovations, including a massive closed outside pattern to improve dry performance and cornering and the super stiff sidewall design for handling and stability.
Hans Vrijsen, Managing Director Consumer OE, Goodyear EMEA commented: “We’re pleased that drivers of the exciting CUPRA Formentor VZ5 will benefit from the superb performance of the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport. We worked in very close collaboration with CUPRA to perfect the tire around their requirements, and the fact that they chose Eagle F1 SuperSport for their flagship car is a testament to the performance credentials of the tire.”
Goodyear’s involvement with CUPRA extends onto the racetrack, too. As exclusive tire supplier to PURE ETCR, the world’s first all-electric multi-brand touring car championship, and WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup, Goodyear provides racing versions of the Eagle F1 SuperSport to teams racing the electric CUPRA e-Racer in PURE ETCR and the CUPRA León Competición in WTCR.
