BMW chooses Dunlop sports and sports touring tires to grip new R1300R and R1300RS
Tires from Dunlop’s hypersport and sports touring ranges have been chosen by BMW as original equipment (OE) fitments on its exciting new R1300R roadster and R1300RS sports tourer, launched earlier this month.
Dunlop RoadSmart IV and SportSmart Mk3 are available on different versions of both bikes. For the standard variants, Dunlop RoadSmart IV gives riders test-winning1 sports touring performance on dry and wet roads, all year round.
For an even sportier feel, the R1300R Performance and R1300RS Performance models come equipped with Dunlop SportSmart Mk3 tires, which combine with sport suspension, sport seats and engine spoilers to let riders experience the dynamic riding fun of these boxer twin bikes even more. SportSmart Mk3 comes from Dunlop’s renowned hypersport range, which features technology developed on the racetrack during superbike championships.
Both tire variants come in 120/70ZR17 front and 190/55ZR17 rear sizes for the bikes’ 17-inch wheels, which are 1.4kg lighter than on the predecessor, allowing for improved acceleration and brake response. This combines to improve handling so riders can feel more feedback from their Dunlop tires.
BMW’s choice of Dunlop tires for its new R1300R and R1300RS highlights the recent OE partnerships between the two brands.
Miguel Morais, Original Equipment Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “We’re proud that BMW has chosen our RoadSmart IV and SportSmart Mk3 tires for its impressive new R1300R and R1300RS, and excited for riders to experience the riding thrill that these tires can deliver on sports bikes like these. We have a long established partnership with BMW as an OE tire supplier, and our successes with BMW teams on the race track is the perfect way to underline Dunlop’s race to road development philosophy.”
