Team USA wins Motocross of Nations with Dunlop

  • Team USA claims memorable MXoN victory at home
  • Dunlop wins more races than any other manufacturer
  • Traction and grip provided by the new Dunlop Geomax MX14

Team USA secured a historic Motocross of Nations (MXoN) victory on Sunday, winning with Dunlop Geomax MX14 tyres on home soil at RedBud. Dunlop tyres were the choice of more winners than any other brand in his highly competitive event.

For the first time in 11 years, Team USA won the Chamberlain Trophy at the MXoN, having overcome tough competition from Team Australia and Team France. This unique event features three riders from each country, each competing in two of the day’s three final races. For the winning team, the results and teamwork of Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton combined to score the best overall result.

Sunday’s action got off to a flying start with a win for Tomac. The two-time Supercross champion with Dunlop later followed up with a respectable sixth place finish in the third and final heat. In the second race, Sexton narrowly missed out on his own win and came home second, shortly before finishing the day with third in the final contest. Justin Cooper, meanwhile claimed a fourth and ninth place result on his smaller 250cc machine.

There was more Dunlop success for other teams, too. Australian rider Jett Lawrence won the second race and followed up with a runner-up position in the final round. Team Australia proved to be one of the Americans’ closest competitors, alongside France, whose Dunlop rider Dylan Ferrandis picked up a fourth place finish at the end of the day.

In all, riders from 19 countries chose Dunlop tyres, making up around one-third of the grid - an impressive statistic when considering nine different tyre manufacturers were represented. Moreover, between the qualifying heats and final races, four of the seven races were won by Dunlop. On the final podium, featuring the American, French and Australian teams, seven of the nine riders were on Dunlop, making Dunlop the most successful tyre brand at the event.

Those Saturday victories included the MX2 qualifying win for eventual champion Justin Cooper and the Open class qualifying win for Dylan Ferrandis. In both sessions, Dunlop tyres were chosen by the three fastest riders.

All Dunlop riders used the Geomax MX14 tyre, which was officially launched earlier this year and developed by top riders in the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) last season. Designed to offer supreme traction on soft sand and mud surfaces, Geomax MX14 proved to be the ideal tyre for RedBud’s soft surface.

Eddy Seel, MXGP Event Leader, Dunlop: “Congratulations to Team USA for a historic and memorable victory at their home Motocross of Nations. We saw very competitive racing from the American, Australian and French teams, amongst others, so their win is well deserved. We’re pleased that so many top riders chose Dunlop Geomax MX14, and today’s results underline the tyre’s performance credentials on soft sand surfaces like RedBud.”
