Goodyear’s Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 tyre has achieved a coveted “Good” rating and shared 1^st place in the latest all-season tyres test by ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) [1], the largest automative association in Europe.

Previously, in 2024, Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 was the first all-season tyre ever to receive the “Good” ADAC rating. [2]

The new test results highlight the tyre's well-balanced performance, reinforcing the value of innovative Goodyear technologies and outlining why the tyre is a top choice for consumers and business fleets.

Highest Mileage and Environmental Balance

The Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 stood out as the best tyre for mileage in the ADAC test. It lasted an estimated 68,000 km before tread wear. It also impressed with its outstanding environmental balance and was praised for its “very low abrasion, low weight and low fuel consumption”. [3]

2. Monitor Tread Depth: Ensure sufficient tread for grip and safety - replace tires below the legal limit of 1.6mm. 
3. Check Wheel Alignment: Misalignment leads to uneven wear and reduced efficiency. 
4. Avoid Overloading: Exceeding load limits strains tires and can lead to failure. 
5. Rotate Tires: Regular rotation extends tire life, especially for front-wheel-drive vehicles. 
6. Drive Smoothly: Gentle driving and avoiding harsh braking or cornering preserves tire health.

Drivers will be allocated three sets of Goodyear’s soft compound tyres and one set of the hard compound this weekend. Drivers may also choose to use up to two sets of carryover tyres from previous events, but the medium compound, which is expected to be the more popular carryover choice for this event, is only allowed to be used in FP1 and FP2.

Teams have already taken advantage of carryover tyres in previous rounds this season to maximise performance in qualifying and during the three races. However, with the season at its midway point after Oulton Park, some drivers might also be planning to keep some compounds on the side for the later parts of the season, when fewer of the quicker soft compounds are available.

Michael Butler, Goodyear’s BTCC Event Leader, explains: “Oulton Park is a circuit that really challenges drivers and team alike to think about their tyre strategy. The track is demanding, narrow and rich with complex braking zones, therefore making it more challenging to overtake. Getting superb traction out of the hairpin and Knickerbrook will be crucial for drivers to gain vital fractions of a second for the climbs through Hilltop and Clay Hill. 

“Teams and drivers will need to think strategically about their tyre choices this weekend; drivers will have to use the hard compound for the entirety of one of the three races, which means we will see a lot of soft compound running across all other sessions - unless drivers choose to save these tyres for future events and can run on medium or hard compounds they have carried over from previous events. The carryover strategy is a season-long game; the developments of which are likely to unfold after the summer break.”

Sutton shines in the wet to take Goodyear Wingfoot Award at Thruxton

The Goodyear Wingfoot Award saw its third different winner of the season at Thruxton as Ashley Sutton of NAPA Racing UK claimed the trophy a fortnight ago at the Hampshire track. The 2023 Goodyear Wingfoot Award winner drew on his championship-winning experience to master the wet conditions during qualifying to claim the top spot. 

The Ford Focus driver will be looking to maintain that momentum at Oulton Park, where he faces stiff competition from other drivers looking to secure this weekend’s Goodyear Wingfoot Award. 

One such contender is Team VERTU racer Tom Ingram, who, talking to Goodyear, describes the consistency required to top the qualifying timesheets and win the award: "As each year passes, I think what we've seen time and again is the level of consistency needed to stay near the front,” explained the Hyundai i30 star. 

“It's about being mindful of building performance throughout the race weekend. Saturdays especially are critical, as we're down to such fine margins now [with the lighter cars]. When we bolt on the soft tyres, you've got to push hard from the very first corner.

“It often seems that whoever wins the Goodyear Wingfoot Award is also right up there in the championship. The two go hand in hand. I hope I can win it this year. I’ve never quite managed [the season award], but everything seems to be getting closer each year.”

The Goodyear Wingfoot Award rewards the fastest qualifying lap at each round. Drivers compete for a Wingfoot trophy at each event, in addition to the season-long title. Points are awarded based on qualifying results throughout the season, with the highest scorer ultimately crowned the 2025 Goodyear Wingfoot Award winner.

Track action at Oulton Park kicks off on Saturday 21 June, ahead of the three races on Sunday 22 June.

• Check Fluids and Cooling Systems: Top up engine oil and brake, cooling and windscreen fluids. Ensure your radiator and air conditioning systems are working efficiently to avoid breakdowns and keep everyone comfortable.

Stay Safe and Compliant Across Europe 

Driving laws and equipment requirements vary by country. Goodyear urges all drivers to familiarize themselves with local regulations before traveling.

For example: 

• In France, a reflective jacket, warning triangle and Crit’Air emissions sticker may be required. 
• Germany enforces environmental zones and prohibits radar detection devices. 
• Italy has strict low emission zones and congestion charges in major cities. 
• Many countries, including Austria and Switzerland, require motorway vignettes. 
• Essential safety equipment like first aid kits, high-visibility jackets and hazard triangles are mandatory in several regions.

Speed limits, toll requirements, and emission regulations can differ significantly and are subject to change. Always research your route and destination, and consult official sources for the latest requirements. 

Plan Ahead for a Smooth Journey 

Goodyear recommends packing an emergency kit, checking all lights and wipers, and planning your route in advance. Monitoring local weather and traffic conditions can help avoid delays and keep your trip stress-free.  

Drivers should also remember to conduct other safety checks before a journey. These include checking your car over before you set off and inspecting tires for tread depth and incorrect pressures.

To meet the increasing demand in Europe’s SUV and EV markets, the new sizes will range from 18 to 23 inches, with 93% of the new SKUs measuring 19 inches or larger, in response to market trends favouring larger rim sizes.

The new SKUs are optimised to fit a wide range of modern vehicles and popular EVs, such as the Volvo EX90, Audi Q7, Range Rover Sport, Tesla Model Y, Polestar 4 and Audi Q8 e-tron. Like all Goodyear tyres, Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 is EV-ready thanks to its low rolling resistance which improves efficiency and reduces interior noise, making it ideal for the very latest vehicles coming to market. 

Award-winning performance for its class-leading technologies

The 42 SKUs will be introduced through a phased rollout, with 27 fitments launching in the first half of 2025, followed by the additional 15 in the second half of the year. More than 50% of these new SKUs will incorporate Goodyear’s innovative SoundComfort and SealTech technologies. SoundComfort minimises road noise for a quieter, more refined driving experience, while SealTech effectively seals punctures up to 5mm, enhancing both convenience and safety.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6’s low rolling resistance and high load rating makes it optimal for modern SUVs and electric vehicles, which demand more from a tyre to maximise range and efficiency.
