For the 2026 season, Goodyear will introduce a new truck racing tire incorporating 60% sustainable materials¹, up from 55% in the previous season. This reflects Goodyear’s ongoing commitment with the FIA to improve tire sustainability year after year in top‑level truck racing. Based on Goodyear’s internal sustainability classification framework, a tire incorporating 60% or more sustainable materials is assigned a two-leaf rating (with one leaf assigned to tires below this threshold).

In addition to this technical development, Goodyear will introduce the Wingfoot Award in the Goodyear FIA ETRC. One Wingfoot Award will be presented at each race event during the 2026 season. The award will recognize a driver selected by fans. The Wingfoot Award is designed to further engage fans throughout the season while highlighting performances and moments that reflect the values of the championship.

To be able to count on a tire that incorporates 60 percent sustainable materials and has been designed to meet the requirement of a single tire type, able to perform consistently across a wide range of circuits and weather conditions, and one with improved durability to reduce tire use without performance being compromised, is very significant for the Goodyear FIA ETRC and motor sport as a whole.”

Goodyear has been involved in European truck racing for more than two decades and has served as title sponsor of the Goodyear FIA ETRC since 2022.

Sustainability efforts within the Goodyear FIA ETRC also include the retreading of race‑used tires, which are processed in Goodyear factories in Europe and reintroduced into commercial service, supporting a circular use of resources from the racetrack to the road.

The Goodyear FIA ETRC 2026 season gets underway at Misano, Italy, on May 30–31.

Goodyear will supply all teams with race tires, ensuring a level playing field across the grid while meeting the highest standards of safety and performance.

The partnership continues a long-standing relationship between Goodyear and ETRA Promotion GmbH. Goodyear has been the exclusive tire supplier to the Goodyear FIA ETRC (European Truck Racing Championship) for more than 20 years and has played a key role in developing modern truck racing tires.

In 2025, Goodyear introduced a new truck racing tire made from 55% sustainable materials — a significant step towards more sustainable motorsport. The development reflects a broader ambition to deliver high-performance solutions that meet both the demands of racing and growing environmental expectations.

Goodyear is also advancing circular-economy initiatives, with used racing tires retreaded in its factory in Germany and repurposed for commercial transport applications, helping to reduce waste and maximize resource efficiency.

The TGP Championship will make its debut in May 2026, bringing truck racing to Germany’s major circuits with events at the Hockenheimring, Lausitzring and Nürburgring.

The Role Tyres Play in a Championship

As official tyre supplier of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC), Goodyear's tyres are put through their paces during a race weekend as 15 race-prepared trucks — based on road-going 4x2 tractor units — roar around Europe's race tracks. These trucks boast massive 1,500-bhp engines with average torque of 5,500 Nm, which can power the trucks from 0-100 kph in five seconds and 30-160 kph in just six seconds.

Without the right tyres, these trucks would never be able to perform in this way. With heavy loads under braking and 0-100 kph times to rival a sports car — but in a full-size truck!— the tyres need to withstand a lot of stress.

The same goes for endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. High-quality tyres contribute to the complex strategy of 24-hour race. Teams need to balance performance alongside fuel saving, meaning the tyres need to find the perfect balance between these two elements.

Formula One strategy is very similar. During its time in Formula One, Goodyear picked up 368 victories — still an unbeaten record today — and contributed to some clever strategy decisions. Again, the balance needs to be found between durability and performance to ensure drivers are able to get as much as possible from their cars while reducing the amount of time spent in the pits.

It's important that the tyres are fit for the job. Not only do they have to withstand the harsh conditions of the racetrack — high-speed kerbstone impacts, high temperatures, heavy braking, and quick acceleration — but they need to both perform and be efficient at the same time. These race tyres also need to work just as well in the wet as they do in the dry, as the ETRC uses the same tyres for both dry and wet conditions.

Continuing Innovation

These challenging race conditions make the perfect test bed for the innovation of new tyre technologies. Not just in terms of how to last longer, go faster, find more grip or save more fuel, but in terms of how to find the best balance and durability for road-going tyres.

Motorsport is exciting but it also provides an important element for the next level of tyres for both commercial and passenger vehicles.

Since 2004, Goodyear has been running a truck racing development programme, in which the specially designed Goodyear Truck Race Tyre became a reality. Since then, these tyres have evolved quite considerately including the introduction of RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chips in 2011 to support the FIA officials in monitoring teams' tyre use to ensure fair play.

After intensive testing in truck racing, this connected tyre technology was brought into Goodyear's current on-road and mixed-service tyres. The chip in the tyre helps optimise daily fleet operations and tyre maintenance. The chip also provides a unique identification code, enabling tracking and monitoring of the tyre during its entire lifetime through production, regrooving, retreading and recycling.

From Race to Road

With this innovation, the technology that goes into Goodyear's truck racing tyres means that on-road tyres are getting more and more sophisticated and stronger — offering more mileage through extended lifetime. For commercial vehicles, the focus, of course, isn't on short-term performance. What Goodyear learns from its race truck tyres, it implements on the road to create more sustainable and efficient tyres with a low-rolling resistance to improve fuel consumption and wear.

Starting at Misano, Italy on May 26, the series will yet again see the thrills of 1,500 horsepower, 5.5 tonne trucks racing at speeds of up to 160 km/h with acceleration similar to a high performance sports car.

All entrants will be exclusively racing on specially developed Goodyear Truck Racing Tyres. The extended exclusive relationship with the FIA and the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) gives Goodyear the stage to demonstrate its innovative technological capabilities in truck tyres and test new technologies for truck tyres under challenging and competitive conditions.

Goodyear Truck Racing Tyres

Goodyear Truck Racing tyres are built in size 315/70R22.5 using a similar carcass to standard Goodyear truck tyres. The carcass is modified and includes cool running specifications and provides increased lateral rigidity, to perform in the most demanding racing conditions.

Goodyear Truck Racing tyres also have a specifically designed tread providing very high levels of grip in both dry and wet conditions. In combination with a characteristic asymmetric shoulder design and circumferential grooves, the tread compound offers all-round performance consistently to all drivers and on all tracks.

A further feature of Goodyear Truck Racing tyres is RFID (Radio Frequency Identity), which gives each tyre a unique identity allowing the FIA to monitor each tyre to ensure all teams keep to the regulations regarding the number and usage of race tyres.
