In 2021 Goodyear has qualified for DAF’s highest category within the program, the “Masters” level. This is the first time Goodyear has achieved this score, owing to the work and dedication of its teams who constantly seek to improve the total customer experience year over year. This is particularly true of maintaining our high standards of operational excellence despite a disruptive macro environment.

The program annually award suppliers that have, among a variety of criteria, improved results, promoted collaboration and optimised relationships with customers.

Improvements in sustainability with new products and smart technologies

As a dedicated development partner, Goodyear also supports truck and trailer manufacturers in planning for the future. For example, the newly introduced FUELMAX ENDURANCE tyre, gives DAF’s new generation of trucks a lower rolling resistance and supports reducing the vehicle’s carbon footprint by -2%¹.  On top, all Goodyear on-road tyres are compatible with alternative drivetrains such as hybrid and battery-electric HGVs. This solidifies Goodyear’s position as a trusted supplier and partner that consistently adds value through innovation.

The European Commission has introduced VECTO, which stands for Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool. Goodyear is working with OEMs and fleet customers to maximise sustainability efforts and overall fleet efficiency. Alongside a host of influencing factors such as vehicle type and weight and aerodynamics, tyre rolling resistance has a major role to play.

Furthermore, Goodyear’s Total Mobility end-to-end solution also helped it boost its eligibility for the “Masters” certification. By using advanced technologies and solutions, DAF and Goodyear have strengthened their working relationship year over year and will continue to support leading fleets across Europe to drive results in competitiveness, efficiency and sustainability.

DAF considers no less than sixteen KPIs before rating each supplier including key criteria on product development, operations support and business alignment.

Caterpillar created the Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP) to recognise suppliers who commit to excellence and drive a “zero defects” culture in their business. Certification levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Goodyear Wittlich plant in Germany supplies hi-quality tyres for  Caterpillar compact wheel loaders.

German company Duwald Reifen has consistently shown first class service and delivered a 100% ServiceLine24h acceptance rate for the last six years. This meant every emergency roadside request for service was actioned, with zero rejections, showing the efficiency and capacity of the company. Based just outside of Hamburg, Duwald Reifen has gone above and beyond for Goodyear customers and thoroughly deserves this award.

Next, for being the leading company in its country for the usage of Goodyear’s eJob app and for continued growing support to key Goodyear fleets in Poland, Misztal has also been awarded a TruckForce Service Excellence award. eJob is the latest generation of the mobile tyre management app from Goodyear, enabling technicians to record fleet work conducted at the customer location or workshop

Based near the strategically important port in north-west France, Nantes Pneumatiques has been awarded a TruckForce Service Excellence Award for providing a ServiceLine24h acceptance rate of over 90%. The company has also been an early adopter of eJob. Nantes Pneumatiques, a member of Profil+ tyre group that expands the impressive fleet support package to Goodyear customers across France.

ProTyre Truck, which is based in the UK with headquarters in Winchester, has successfully rolled out Goodyear’s latest collection of smart tools, including eJob and FOS (FleetOnline Solutions) eCasing, across its national network. Together with Goodyear, the collaboration has seen an expansion recently in specific parts of the UK to deliver strong coverage for the service network to fleet customers. This has awarded ProTyre a TruckForce Service Excellence Award.

Finally, for first class service delivery at contracted fleets, showing a high usage of eJob and growing shares of the business, Dekk og Felg Lillestrøm has been awarded a TruckForce Service Excellence Award. Located near the Norwegian capital Oslo and close to the Swedish border, its range of services in a strategically important location means it's the final company to win a TruckForce Service Excellence Award in the fourth quarter.

In this category, Goodyear has been recognized for its innovative and environmentally friendly traction resin, which was developed at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Colmar-Berg for use in the manufacture of Company’s ultra-high-performance tires. This special resin replaces petroleum-based resins traditionally used in the tire manufacturing and is helping the company to reach its goal of producing a 100% sustainable-material and maintenance-free tire by 2030.

“At Goodyear, we strive to make an impact by our choice of the materials we use, and Goodyear’s new traction resin has several advantages for the environment. It not only reduces naphtha/crude oil requirements, but also improves fuel consumption and reduces CO2 emissions, says Xavier Fraipont, Goodyear’s Vice President for Product Development in Europe Middle East and Africa.

Over the last five years, Goodyear engineers have been working to develop and test this terpene resin, which is produced out of pine trees. Combined with other raw materials in the tread compound, this new formula contributes to the reduction of petroleum-based resins consumption as well as an increase in the tire performance of 18% in rolling resistance and 30% in mileage, providing better performance both for the motorist and the environment.

This bio-based resin is currently used across the Europe Middle East and Africa regions for passenger and commercial ultra-high performance tires such as the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and Eagle F1 SuperSport.

Goodyear has revealed five TruckForce Service Excellence Award winners for the third quarter for 2021, following the creation of the Awards earlier this year. The Awards showcase first-class customer service across the tyre company’s pan-European TruckForce network. The third quarter winners may come from five different countries, but they all share a goal to deliver high performance and initiatives that benefit their commercial fleet customers.

Showing the TruckForce spirit is German partner Reifenhandel Mielke. The company has adopted Goodyear’s Total Mobility programme for local logistics companies including advanced telematics and predictive analysis technology. The smart tyre monitoring portfolio helps fleet managers to identify and resolve tyre-related issues, including safety issues, before they happen. Based near Paderborn, the company has successfully demonstrated the benefits of Goodyear’s intelligent Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Goodyear TPMS) to help its customers achieve higher levels of safety and efficiency.

Belgian TruckForce partner Banden Michel has long been a strong promoter of the Goodyear package of fleet solutions. It has championed the concept of regrooving and retreading to promote fleet efficiency to its customers. The quality of Goodyear casings gives multiple lives to tyres and Banden Michel has truly focused on demonstrating the cost and sustainability benefits of the Goodyear Retreading program to its customer base.

The other three award winners are based in southern Europe, highlighting the geographical scope of the Goodyear TruckForce Service Network. Long-term Goodyear partner Tsiakalos Safe Tyres has provided Greek transportation companies with an outstanding commitment to quality and service, offering a best-in-class 24/7/365 service, resulting in regular praise from local customers. This makes it a worthy recipient of a quarterly award for service excellence.

In Romania, Dumivest is based close to the Hungarian border on a major trucking route. It has delivered high quality service to key contracted commercial accounts, and has reduced paperwork and time consuming administration for its customers by encouraging them to embrace the use of Goodyear’s innovative online eJob maintenance system in their day-to-day operations.

Finally, Autotransporti Zupancic, located in Slovenia in a strategically important route near the Croatian border, has been commended by Goodyear for top-class fleet service provision, as a leading user of Goodyear eJob, and commitment to Goodyear ServiceLine24h roadside assistance. Thanks to their 24/7 service operation and ability to respond to calls on the Slovenian highway as an approved national provider, they enable Goodyear to ensure the mobility of vehicles in the region.

TruckForce Community Spirit Award

In the world of trucking, stories of heroism and community spirit abound. In the UK, Steven Cruddas, a technician at TruckForce in Derby, went above and beyond in his work to ensure the health and safety of a customer.

Upon arriving at a call-out, Steven realised the driver was having chest pains. With a two-hour delay for an ambulance at the height of the pandemic, Steven made the decision to take the driver to hospital himself and ensure he was treated at the earliest opportunity. Steven then returned to the vehicle to complete the job as well as ensuring it was safe to be left unattended.

The TruckForce Excellence Awards programme was launched by Goodyear earlier this year to recognize exceptional service across the pan-European TruckForce network. The winners have all displayed an outstanding approach in driving high performance, such as adopting new technologies, implementing development and training, showing leadership initiative and making new operational achievements with sustainability in mind.

The winners of the 2021 Second Quarter Goodyear TruckForce Service Excellence Awards include service partners in the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Hungary and Spain.

Firstly, Barking Tyre Services, a UK-based tire-fitting service has been recognized for strong customer collaboration in implementing the Goodyear Total Mobility package and the online eJob process with new customers. Based in the London area, the team has also displayed flexibility in delivering a high level of roadside assistance during an incredibly busy period, providing customers with consistent top-quality service. Similarly, Polish service provider Wulgumex has been recognized for its close collaboration with the Goodyear fleet team, attracting new fleet customers in the quarter. They’ve also demonstrated strong reliability with their ServiceLine24h coverage.

Secondly, two partners in the international Vulco network have been recognized by Goodyear for outstanding service. The French Vulco DOME opened a strategically important branch, improving TruckForce’s coverage in central France, reducing service times for customers in the Clermont-Ferrand area. The franchise has also taken leadership on French eJob usage as well as scoring a close-to-perfect score during the TruckForce quality audit in 2020. Spanish partner, Navaliegos Motor, came out also very high in the audit, while extending its operations through adopting the Goodyear Proactive Solutions retail model and delivering its first Goodyear TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) contract to a local fleet.

Finally, Hungarian Premio partner Kiss Gumi near Budapest has been selected as the fifth award winner. Being one of the leading eJob users in Eastern Europe, they provide high-quality service coverage that strengthens Goodyear’s impressive fleet support package to international customers.

Across Europe, the growth of the SUV and Crossover sector has been one of the car industry success stories. The term Sports Utility Vehicle neatly explains the broad versatility of these cars. The rugged look, elevated driving position and the mix of hatchback practicality with all-terrain ability has made SUVs a hit with drivers and families alike.

Many SUV owners across Europe choose these increasingly popular cars as part of their active lifestyle, allowing them to enjoy activities outdoors with confidence that their car can handle a wide range of conditions and environments. As Europe enters Spring and the prospect of hobbies and sports resuming post-lockdown, drivers will be beginning to consider their leisure plans. From muddy fields to wet grass and gravel paths, a countryside lifestyle requires a car that can tackle varied terrains, and consumers who tow caravans or horseboxes off-road demand more traction still.

For Goodyear, the growth in SUVs has brought new opportunities to showcase tire technology, as Thomas Gesenhoff, Technical Project Manager, explains: “Tires such as our Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV are specially designed for these vehicles. We take a different design approach to conventional car tire development. SUV tires need to be more robust and versatile but still deliver the dynamic feel and performance demanded by drivers moving from saloons and hatchbacks.

“The stronger sidewall and belt material in the construction not only helps longevity, but it also provides precise steering and dynamics. This is important in a vehicle that has a higher center of gravity than a regular car. To help cope with the additional weight of an SUV, tires are typically larger giving a greater air volume. To provide all-terrain versatility, the increased size of an SUV tire provides more gripping edges. This also gives a thicker layer of more robust lower rubber, which combined with a ply cover that’s twice as strong as the car tire gives SUV drivers the durability they demand”

The all-purpose versatility of SUVs and Crossovers means owners expect them to cover everything from business to family and leisure duties. This results in consumers demanding higher mileage tires and Thomas explains how Goodyear met these challenges: “The EfficientGrip 2 SUV has a 25% improvement in mileage¹ versus its predecessor, thanks to Goodyear’s mileage plus technology, which offers high tread elasticity and flexibility, resulting in less fractures from rough road conditions over a wide range of temperatures.”

Goodyear’s focus on developing distinct designs and technologies for SUV tires has been validated by a resounding win in a recent comparison of ten SUV tires. Auto Bild allrad magazine declared the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV as top tire after a test of performance on wet and dry roads as well as the type of off-road surfaces such as sand, gravel, grass and mud that the typical SUV driver will encounter.

The Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV was the only tire in the Auto Bild allrad test² to score in the top band in each of the magazine's fifteen test categories. The testers particularly focused on EfficientGrip 2 SUV’s outstanding wet braking performance. This comes from a high number of longer gripping edges combined with lower compound stiffness, which improves grip on wet surfaces. The larger ribs at the center of the tread mean a greater contact area for short dry braking distances, too.

The off-road performance is particularly important for people who purchase SUVs for their towing ability. Whilst many SUV drivers won’t be wanting the hardcore off-road performance of a traditional 4x4, they do require traction when towing caravans or horseboxes on wet grass or gravel. That’s where the versatility of a bespoke SUV tire such as the EfficientGrip 2 SUV helps.

Goodyear’s EfficientGrip 2 SUV is part of a growing range including the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 SUV for high-performance vehicles such as the Porsche Macan and Range Rover Sport, and the Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV AT providing all-terrain and all-season ultra-high performance. With many electric vehicles adopting a higher SUV-style design, this is an important development area for Goodyear.

The Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV has been awarded top marks after an extensive test by one of Germany’s leading automotive magazines. Auto Bild allrad has a particular focus on the SUV, crossover and 4x4 sector and compared ten different brands of SUV tires in an in-depth test that covered fifteen different performance criteria¹. 

Confirming its vast range of ability, the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV not only achieved the highest overall score but was also the only tire to be placed in the top band for each of those criteria. Reflecting the multi-purpose needs of SUV drivers, the test covered performance in the wet and dry as well as measuring traction on a variety of off-road surfaces such as sand, gravel, grass and mud. 

Using a Jeep Renegade, the respected magazine described the Goodyear as having exemplary driving qualities on all surfaces, sporty handling, precise steering behaviour and short wet and dry braking distances. Their testers also rated it as having excellent fuel-saving rolling resistance.

This consistent top-level performance across all fifteen test categories comes from the range of innovations in the EfficientGrip 2 SUV design. This innovation results in fewer fractures from rough road conditions over a wide range of temperatures.

Europe’s largest motoring association, ADAC, has declared the results of an intensive durability test on a range of high performance tires. The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 took the top spot with a mileage result that was more than twice that of some rival brands⁵.

The test compared fifteen tyre brands in the high performance sector using Europe’s best selling car, the Volkswagen Golf. The 205/55R16 tire size was used to underline the relevance of the test, as the most popular fitment in many European markets and a common size on a vast range of family hatchbacks and saloons.

After testing the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, ADAC praised its particular strengths in high wear resistance , short braking distance and good controllability on wet roads.

A detailed analysis of ADAC’s results¹ highlights how big the differences were in the wear test. One brand⁵ reached its wear limit at just 24,800 km, while the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 showed a wear prediction that was more than double under identical conditions, at 55,300 km. To show the emphatic nature of its durability advantage, there were three rival brands⁵ that struggled to achieve 50% of the Goodyear tire’s mileage. 

ADAC results match TÜV SÜD findings

These results validate other recent impressive mileage tests for the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2. Internal tests and an independent test by TÜV SÜD showed that it had an estimated 50% higher mileage⁴ than its predecessor and 20% higher mileage than Michelin². In those tests, the Goodyear also recorded the shortest braking distances on wet and dry roads compared to four tested competitors³ proving that durability doesn’t compromise wet grip and safety.

“We are delighted that the results of the ADAC test reinforce the findings from previous tests. It’s clear that the EfficientGrip Performance 2 is a no-compromise choice for high-mileage drivers who also demand performance. Achieving twice the mileage of rival tires brings significant cost and environmental benefits to drivers and fleet managers alike," said Piotr Nagalski, Director, Marketing Europe.

The EfficientGrip Performance 2 is available in 45 sizes spanning a range of 15-18 inch wheel fitments. It achieves its test leading mileage performance with a range of innovative features including high tread elasticity and flexibility. This reduces tire wear caused by rough road conditions, without compromising on wet and dry performance.

The first two tire tests of the season from German trade magazines have been published and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 has bested the competition in both.

“Goodyear conceived the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 as the ultimate all-round summer tire,” said Piotr Nagalski, Director of Marketing at Goodyear Europe, “we are proud to see the tire’s performance on wet and dry roads recognized by prestigious German publications Auto Zeitung and Gute Fahrt.”

Auto Zeitung gives top rating and fuel-saving recommendation[1]

In its latest summer tire test, German car magazine Auto Zeitung examined ten branded 225/40R18 size products in the sporty UHP segment. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 won the test with outstanding performance and a clear lead over the next-placed tire. It also received the coveted fuel-saving recommendation.

The tire also outperformed all competitors in the safety-relevant discipline of wet braking.

The publication’s editors commented that: "The performance of the Goodyear, which is already excellent on wet roads, is very good, not only subjectively, but also, for example, with low rolling resistance. This performance suggests an enormous development effort, because only with an appropriately complex rubber compound can a tire roll efficiently and at the same time be grippy in the wet."

The experts sum up the Goodyear tire’s performance as follows: "With top performance on wet and dry roads, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 takes the test win and also the award for the most efficient tire among those recommended."

Gute Fahrt impressed by the tire’s development[2]

Gute Fahrt magazine put eight summer tires in the popular 245/40 R18Y size through their paces. As by far the best in the test, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 demonstrated terrific performance. It received the coveted Gute Fahrt recommendation and the best overall rating of "Very Good +".

It was the only candidate to receive the grade "Very Good" in all performance-relevant criteria - handling dry/wet, ABS braking dry/wet, aquaplaning longitudinal/crosswise, circular path wet.

The experts' comments speak volumes: "We don't know what alchemist Goodyear has contracted, but he definitely did a great job. On wet or damp roads, the Eagle F1 outperforms the others. But also, in the dry disciplines it plays right at the top.”

The Drive-Over-Reader Technology

The Goodyear Drive-Over-Reader is a state-of-the-art, ground-mounted sensor. The system automatically measures and analyzes important tire and vehicle parameters: inflation, remaining tread depth, axle load and total weight are displayed in seconds.

The state-of-the-art technology Drive-Over-Reader technology provides real-time tire data and alerts can be automatically sent to the fleet manager, service technician and the driver. This data supports to proactively monitor the tire and the efficiency of the fleet. It further enables fleet operators to maximize uptime, forecast maintenance when the vehicle is not in service and to establish a long-term tire replacement planning.

The identification of potential tire issues at an early stage contributes to maximizing the performance and mileage of the tire and the fleet.

Correct tire pressure decreases unnecessary CO2 emissions

Low tire pressure leads to increased fuel consumption and unnecessary CO2 emissions. A truck operation on tires inflated in the correct way can save up to € 694 per year compared to a truck traveling at 1.5 bar under-pressure. This corresponds to a saving of 510 liters of fuel and 1,330 kilograms less CO2 emissions.

On December 7th, 2017, at the annual supplier conference at the Auditorium G. Agnelli Lingotto in Turin (Italy), Goodyear has been awarded “Chassis Supplier of the Year” by the famous Italian-American car manufacturer.

KTM is currently the fastest growing motorcycle manufacturer in the world. In 2016, KTM sold more than 203,000 motorcycles worldwide with their KTM and Husqvarna brands. 2016 was their sixth record year in a row. Many KTM models are equipped with Dunlop tires including the XC, XC F , XC W and XCF W. The SX and SX F models also are factory fitted with Dunlop.

Sister brand Husqvarna also choose Dunlop for the Husqvarna TE, FE, TC and FC ranges.

KTM models are fitted with Dunlop Geomax tires, including the latest World Championship race winning MX-3S and the AT81. The Geomax MX3S has become a proven MXGP race winner on a variety of bikes due to its outstanding grip in a wide variety of terrain thanks to its block-within-a-block tread knobs. This, coupled with superior bump absorption through a damping control sidewall compound helps the innovative MX-3S act as a suspension component so the tyre can better follow the track surface.

‘Off Road’ readers could choose their favorite tire out of eleven contenders. The Wrangler DuraTrac came out as the favorite, with 21.3 percent voting for the Goodyear tire. More than 20,000 readers took part, nominating their favorite off-road tire as well as their favorite off-road vehicle.

The Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac has been designed especially for heavy off-road driving, and thanks to its durability and versatility, vehicles can tackle challenging terrain.

Each year, these awards reassert the importance of supplier relations for the success of the Groupe PSA’s strategic profitable growth plan – currently captured in the Push to Pass strategy. This year, PSA Groupe awarded the accolade for Goodyear’s exceptional product quality, while being able to cope with high-volume production.

The award ceremony took place on July 12th, at the PSA facility in Poissy, France. Amiens South’ plant director, Alain Dessy, accepted the award on behalf of the Goodyear team.

• Goodyear kick-starts the summer tire season with a number one ranking and ‘exemplary’ distinction for its latest Ultra-High Performance Tire in the leading German Magazine Auto Bild allrad. [1]
• The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 performed especially well on dry and wet surfaces, was described as a well-balanced road tire and was lauded for its high performance with regards to aquaplaning. 

Goodyear’s ultra-high-performance tire was titled best performing tire overall by Auto Bild allrad. After scoring consistently high in the different tests the tire earned praise as a very well-balanced road tire. When braking on dry, the tire took second place with a braking distance of 34.8 meters from a starting speed of 100 km/h on dry; on wet, the tire also came in second with a braking distance of 47.7 meters from 100 km/h. 

The tire also performed well in the aquaplaning test, being dubbed ‘brilliant’ on a wet road, coming in second both on a straight road and in a curve. As far as gravel aquaplaning is concerned, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 came in third.

Strong grip

These results are exemplary for the key features and benefits of the tire. The Active Braking Technology increases the contact surface and grip when braking, which allows for a shorter  braking distance. Additionally, the new grip booster compound and the adhesive resin for stickiness deliver strong grip for shorter  braking and handling. The new reinforced construction delivers a stronger, lightweight tire that contributes to improved handling, cornering performance, tread wear and fuel efficiency. [2]

Tested among 15 of its top competitors, the EfficientGrip SUV was crowned by leading German automotive magazine ADAC as test winner for its well-balanced performance, particularly regarding tire wear, fuel consumption and handling on dry and wet.

For the size 195/65 R15 the EfficientGrip Performance received the ‘Good’ label. The tire was applauded for its low fuel consumption, dry and wet capabilities and overall balanced performance.

After its four test wins and nine podium places in 2016, the Goodyear EfficientGrip range continues to perform strongly in 2017. [1]

For 2016, the Museum received submissions from several thousand manufacturers and graphic design firms from around the world and selected over 900 product designs and graphics worthy of the GOOD DESIGN™ Award. The Eagle-360 is now part of the Museum’s prestigious Permanent Design Collection and will be published in the GOOD DESIGN Yearbook for 2016-2017.

Goodyear unveiled the Eagle-360 at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The spherical, 3-D printed tire highlights Goodyear’s vision for the future and presents an inspiring solution for the long-term future when autonomous driving is expected to be more mainstream.

The unique shape of the Goodyear Eagle-360 could contribute to safety and maneuverability to match the demands of autonomous mobility. The spherical shape of the tire is key to delivering ultimate maneuverability. Active technology allows the tire to move as needed to reduce sliding from potential hazards, such as black ice or sudden obstacles.

“We welcome this great recognition for the tremendous work done by our designers and engineers who developed the Goodyear Eagle-360. It shows that Goodyear truly is at the forefront of industry innovation and leading the way for new technologies”, said Olivier Rousseau, Vice President Consumer PBU EMEA at Goodyear.

“By steadily reducing the driver interaction and intervention in self-driving vehicles, tires will play an even more important role as the primary link to the road,” said Goodyear’s Chief Technical Officer Joe Zekoski. “Goodyear’s concept tires play a dual role in that future both as creative platforms to push the boundaries of conventional thinking and testbeds for next-generation technologies.”

On November 9th, English magazine ‘Auto Express’ released the results of their second all-season tire test. In this prestigious test, Goodyear has taken the crown once again with the Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 tire.

The tire was put up against tough competition from Michelin with their CrossClimate and Nokian with their Weatherproof tire amongst others. Auto Express tested the tires in a number of disciplines including wet, dry and snowy conditions, rolling resistance and cabin noise, the Goodyear tire performed best overall.

The tire performed exceptionally well in the following disciplines: wet braking (1st), wet handling (1st), snow handling (1st) and cabin noise (1st) as well as snow braking (2nd), straight aqua (2nd) and rolling resistance (2nd). Goodyear shone in the wet disciplines stopping 2 meters ahead of the 2nd place Nokian tire in the wet braking test.[2]

Kim Adams, who tested the tires for Auto Express reported "It takes a balanced performance across all our assessments to crown a winner, and that’s what Goodyear has delivered here. There’s no doubt this product is from the winter tire school of all-season design, but it does enough in the wet and dry tests to take the overall victory.“

Kim finished his report with the following verdict on the Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 "A fine all-rounder that’s really safe in wet and on snow. “

Put through vigorous testing, the tire was assessed in various winter conditions including performance on dry surfaces, handling on wet roads and braking in snowy and icy situations. 

Made for winter
The Dunlop Winter Sport 5 is specifically designed to provide the required grip for unpredictable winter roads, offering outstanding lateral grip on slippery surfaces and enhanced performance on snow-covered roads.
ADAC awarded the Dunlop Winter Sport 5 with the test win, mentioning that it was a very well balanced tire, especially good in wet and snowy conditions. Thanks to its great all-round winter performance, the Winter Sport 5 was the only tire from the test receiving the ‘Good’ label.

Auto Bild, Sport Auto and Auto Bild Sportscars handed the Dunlop Winter Sport 5 a podium-spot awarding the tire with labels such as “Exemplary” (Auto Bild Sportscars), ‘Good’ (Auto Bild) and ‘Recommendable’ (Sport Auto) for its good winter performance.

The Dunlop Winter Sport 5 SUV’s very short braking distances and snow capabilities received praise from Auto Bild Allrad and Auto Motor Und Sport. The magazines respectively awarded the tire with a third place and a second place.

The 17th annual Tire of the Year Awards, organized by Neumáticos y Mecánica Rápida, crowned Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 as Spain’s ‘Tire of the Year’ in the Passenger Car category, one the most competitive segments with a total of twelve candidates.

The Tire of the Year Award is a well-established event in the industry, with distributors, readers, and automotive press voting for the most outstanding tires. The award recognizes Goodyear’s efforts in developing the Eagle F1 summer tire range and providing drivers with an excellent braking performance, response, and handling in both dry and wet conditions.
“This award stimulates us to keep delivering high-quality products in an ever-evolving market. The judges from Neumáticos y Mecánica Rápida praised the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 for its excellent results in the braking test, one of the consumers’ key requirements, and especially important for drivers of high performance cars”, said Martijn de Jonge, Brand Director Consumer EMEA.

With this, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 follows in the footsteps of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and Eagle F1 Asymmetric, which received the same award in 2011 and 2008 respectively. But the Eagle F1 wasn’t Goodyear’s only tire range to be recognized as Tire of the Year. Other recent awards include the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance (2014) and the Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV (2012). Also, Goodyear’s FUELMAX truck tire reached the first place of the podium in the Commercial Vehicles category last year.

Goodyear proudly announces that the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires are accredited with original equipment fitments on the new and eagerly awaited Alfa Romeo Giulia.

The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 Ultra High Performance summer tire, developed to meet the needs of powerful sedan and sports car drivers, will be fitted with an all-round fitment (225/45 R18 91 Y) or with a mixed set up, (225/45 R18 91 Y at the front and 255/40 R18 95Y at the rear) according to market specifics.

Both sizes will be equipped with Goodyear’s RunOnFlat technology, which incorporates reinforced sidewalls that can carry the weight of a car for up to 80 km1 after a puncture with complete loss of air pressure.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, Goodyear’s range of tires dedicated to reducing fuel consumption, will be fitted in size 205/60 R16 92W. Because of its low rolling resistance characteristics, this size will fit the Giulia “AE” version (“Advanced Efficiency”), focused on reducing CO2 emissions.

All tires will be marked ‘AR’, to indicate tires approved by Alfa Romeo as Original Equipment on their vehicles.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia incorporates the finest materials, cutting-edge technologies, an aerodynamic design and optimal weight distribution, all adding up to the highest levels of performance. Matched with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, the Giulia is geared up for outstanding braking performance, responsive handling and control in both dry and wet conditions, providing comfort and driving pleasure at the same time. The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tire, assures outstanding performances in terms of CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency.

-             ‘Near unbeatable’ in wet braking **

The trail sector is a fast growing part of the Motorcycle market. In addition to offering adventurous riders the opportunity to explore off-road, many riders are choosing trail bikes to enjoy the feeling of confidence that comes from a high riding position offering great visibility in traffic.

For Dunlop Europe, this growing demand and increasingly varied use of trail bikes means that considerable design and development resources have to be invested in ensuring that a trail tyre performs in all conditions.

Dunlop Europe launched the TrailSmart last year, and this month this latest trail tyre has been acclaimed for its strong wet performance in two independent tests.

No Compromise

The TrailSmart was the only tyre tested by MotoMag to be awarded the maximum five stars in both wet and dry handling.  

In dry conditions, MotoMag described the tyre as comparable to a sports tyre stating:   “Turn in is particularly easy, with very light handling”

In the wet, the same testers praised the TrailSmart as having “Excellent grip and feedback”

Motorrad magazine were also impressed by another important element of the TrailSmart’s performance. In an emergency wet braking test, the magazine awarded it a strong 90% rating for its ability when stopping from high speeds in treacherous conditions. Motorrad described the Trailsmart as “near unbeatable in the wet emergency braking test from 100 km/h.”

Over 85,000 readers participated in the voting for the 2016 Off-road Awards, selecting the most popular off-road vehicles in 12 categories and also choosing the best traction tire.

The readers’ choice award of ‘Off Road’ has been taking place since 1982. The award for the best traction tire has been given since 2013.

• Motorrad gives an impressive 92% score for the new Dunlop RoadSmart III in their test, published this week.
• ‘The Dunlop inspires confidence on wet roads’
• Reinforces earlier Motorrad Test Center data that declared RoadSmart III as #1 in Dry Grip and Handling **

Respected German motorcycle magazine, Motorrad, has tested the latest generation Sport Touring tyres from four manufacturers and proclaimed that the new Dunlop RoadSmart III was ‘highly confidence-inspiring in the wet.’***

This latest published test supports the data from a more in-depth test organised by Motorrad’s sister organisation, Motorrad Test Center( MTC) , between November 2015 and January 2016.

In MTC’s earlier dry handling test, the Dunlop RoadSmart III was rated first and 10% better than the average** of the four competitors. The latest test from Motorrad shows the all-round ability of the RoadSmart III by adding the recognition of the tyre’s strong wet performance.

Using a Honda CB 1000R, the Dunlop achieved an impressive 92% overall score in the latest test, with Motorrad describing the tyre as a ‘very well-balanced all-rounder which is great fun on back roads” . When Motorrad moved to the test track, they also found that the “Dunlop inspires confidence on wet roads”

Motorrad concluded by stating that the RoadSmart III was ‘Agile, precise, stable, with lots of wet grip. A well-rounded profile of characteristics makes the Dunlop a great recommendation for demanding touring riders who travel in any weather’

Stronger for Longer

This performance combination in wet and dry conditions also comes without any compromise in durability.

The MTC report concluded that the RoadSmart III front tyre, as well as being awarded first place, had an incredible 82% mileage advantage over the average of the test competition*, as estimated at the German Legal Limit of 1.6mm. The rear tyre was also top rated in the group for mileage, with a 19% mileage advantage over the average of the tested competition*. The MTC test riders commented that the RoadSmart III had “fine cornering behaviour, similar to its new condition” at the end of this long distance mileage test.

·        Leveraging the tire’s fame, Goodyear decided the time was right to announce the fitment of their Vector 4Seasons model for the SUV segment as well.

Goodyear’s all-season tire, the Vector 4Seasons Generation-2, was commended by the German top-tier automotive magazine Gute Fahrt[1] for its excellent performance, particularly in maintaining grip on wet and dry roads. It can now claim to be the “test winner” and only tire honored with the magazine’s Sehr Gut - (very good -) ranking1. Gute Fahrt‘s recognition is only the last in a series of high-ranking test scores, acknowledging Goodyear's advanced technology and outstanding engineering, which, as of April 2016, will also benefit the SUV segment.

Safety all year round - now also for SUVs

Naturally, Goodyear did not want to limit the huge success of its all-season story solely to the passenger car segment. Growing between 35% and 40% in the past years, the SUV and 4x4 tire segment is the market’s rising star[4]. The desire for a feeling of safety is a key preference steering this growing consumer group. The rise of all-season tires also relates to this growing consideration of safety, which is why Goodyear decided to leverage its all-year-round tire expertise in service of SUV drivers, with their extension of the successful Vector 4Seasons line.

The Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 SUV tire includes the same characteristics as the passenger car tire:

·        Advanced SmartTred plasticizer and increased silica proportion for a better overall performance on wet, slushy and icy roads[5];

·        3D sipes for an enhanced tread stiffness6;

·        Hydrodynamic grooves for an improved aquaplaning resistance6;

·        Solid tread pattern with gradient stiffness for an excellent performance over the tire’s entire life.

The Ford Q1 certification awards supplier facilities or manufacturing sites which have achieved excellence in a range of important criteria including capable systems, high performance, superior manufacturing process, and satisfied customers. The Q1 mark is considered worldwide as an indication of exceptional quality.

The official award was presented to the Goodyear Dunlop plant by a representative from Ford. A flag is now flying outside of the plant as a constant reminder of this coveted accreditation.

Goodyear Dunlop’s Director of Product and Process Quality EMEA, Brad Heim, and Goodyear Dunlop Sava Tires Manufacturing Director, Julien Frezard, were also present to congratulate Goodyear Dunlop employees on their efforts in achieving the standard.

Frezard said: “This certification is very significant for our plant and rewards the hard work and dedication of our employees to deliver a top quality product and service. We understand we have to validate our Ford Q1 status on a regular basis, but we have the right team in place at our plant to ensure the Ford Q1 award flag flies high for many years to come.
