From fitting the right tires to understanding local driving laws, proper preparation is the key to maximizing both safety and driving pleasure this summer.

Prepare Your Vehicle for Summer Journeys

Whether you’re heading for a coastal escape or a cross-border adventure, summer driving brings unique challenges.

Before setting off, Goodyear recommends that drivers:

Check Tires Thoroughly: Carefully inspect tires for wear, cracks, or damage whilst ensuring tread depth meets both local and cross-border legal requirements. Maintaining correct tire pressures is essential for optimal handling, braking and fuel efficiency, especially when carrying extra passengers or luggage.

Choose the Right Tires: Summer or all-season tires would work well on your summer adventure. Summer tires, such as the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, are engineered for warmer temperatures, offering superior grip, shorter braking distances and enhanced efficiency in both wet and dry conditions1. Designed for both electric and traditional vehicles, Goodyear’s summer range helps drivers achieve balanced performance.

Avoid Overloading: Check your vehicle’s recommended tire pressures for loads and avoid exceeding recommended limits to prevent tire damage and handling issues. This Information can usually be found on a label on your vehicle like the inside edge of the drivers door frame or inside the fuel door.

Inspect Your Spare: Ensure your spare tire is in good condition and properly inflated. This is a vital step in case of emergencies. Even if unused, tires degrade and may no longer be roadworthy after a long period of time.

Check Fluids and Cooling Systems: Top up engine oil and brake, cooling and windscreen fluids. Ensure your radiator and air conditioning systems are working efficiently to avoid breakdowns and keep everyone comfortable.

Stay Safe and Compliant Across Europe

Driving laws and equipment requirements vary by country. Goodyear urges all drivers to familiarize themselves with local regulations before traveling.

For example:

In France, a reflective jacket, warning triangle and Crit’Air emissions sticker may be required.

Germany enforces environmental zones and prohibits radar detection devices.

Italy has strict low emission zones and congestion charges in major cities.

Many countries, including Austria and Switzerland, require motorway vignettes.

Essential safety equipment like first aid kits, high-visibility jackets and hazard triangles are mandatory in several regions.

Speed limits, toll requirements, and emission regulations can differ significantly and are subject to change. Always research your route and destination, and consult official sources for the latest requirements.

Plan Ahead for a Smooth Journey

Goodyear recommends packing an emergency kit, checking all lights and wipers, and planning your route in advance. Monitoring local weather and traffic conditions can help avoid delays and keep your trip stress-free.

Drivers should also remember to conduct other safety checks before a journey. Uniting the company’s exhilarating performance for sports cars with its heritage in the world’s premier racing championships, Goodyear Eagle tires are an icon both on and off the track.

The story of Eagle continues to this day, with its latest model – Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 - being one of the best-sellers in Europe and Asia and recently introduced in the Americas. The story behind it incorporates fascinating innovation, evolving from the track to the street model after model, writing the history of motorsport and equipping some of the most desirable sports cars of the past half-century.

“Win on Sunday, sell on Monday”

The name ‘Eagle’ has become closely associated with motorsports, alongside the Goodyear brand, due to its frequent appearance on motorsports tires opposite the Goodyear logo. Goodyear had occasionally used the Eagle name before, but 1980 marked a significant milestone. That year, Goodyear increased investments to lead the high-performance tire market, applying its racing technologies and expertise to consumer products. To strengthen the connection between track and road, the company decided to use the same name for both its racing and ultra-high-performance tires: the Goodyear Eagle brand.

A Goodyear press kit of the era admitted “tires don’t have much inherent sex appeal”. Offering drivers tires chosen by their heroes Andretti, Earnhardt, Senna, Prost, Foyt, Unser and Petty was certainly a way to combat that. With one name to communicate the shared DNA between the race and road tires, the new Goodyear Eagle high performance road tires proved as popular as they were successful on the track.

The first official Eagle road tire was launched for the US market in 1981 and was followed by the Eagle VR50, developed soon after to meet the stricter European speed requirements. VR stood for ‘V-rated’, denoting that the tire met what was at that time the highest speed rating restrictions in Europe to be capable of sustained speeds of up to 130 mph (209 km/h). To develop the Eagle VR50, which had a directional ‘gatorback’ tread pattern derived from the company’s F1 wet tire of the era, Goodyear teams in the US and Germany worked together to develop a tire ready for the unrestricted speeds of the German autobahn. Back in America, it was chosen as original equipment on both the Chevrolet Corvette and Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

More and more high-performance tires used the Eagle name to link back to Goodyear’s winning heritage. The Eagle GT variant had a prominent placement on Doc Brown’s DMC DeLorean time machine in Back to the Future, while Eagle ST became the go-to choice for muscle cars and Eagle NCT for luxury cars. It was in 1993, though, when a new legend was born.

Naming a tire after a car is one thing, but when that name remains on the side of millions of tires even today, over three decades later, it must have been special.

Eagle F1: To new levels of performance

In 1992, McLaren launched its McLaren F1, at the time the world’s fastest production car with a Guinness World Record speed of 240.1 mph (386.4 km/h). To meet the demands asked for this impressive feat of engineering, Goodyear developed a special tire for it: the Eagle F1. McLaren’s original press release highlighted the importance of Goodyear’s contribution: “Right from the McLaren F1’s initial design, the tire was considered as an intrinsic suspension element within the programme’s complex handling and comfort calculations. Weight, safety, noise and dynamic performance were all vital factors.”1

The directional tread pattern in the VR50 proved so popular for its combination of dry handling feedback and wet weather grip that it became the inspiration for the next generation of Eagle road tires in 1994 with the launch of the Eagle F1 GS-D2 (Grand Sport - Directional) and later GS-D3 in 2000. Directional patterns remained the key design philosophy until the launch of Eagle F1 Asymmetric in 2007.

As the weight, power and rim sizes of performance cars increased, Goodyear had to develop a tire with a stronger shoulder to handle this extra dynamic load. By using an asymmetrical design, Goodyear’s development teams were able to match these requirements and improve grip and dry handling without compromising on the predecessor’s renowned wet weather performance.

Back on the top step: The latest advancement in an iconic story

In 2019, the Eagle family moved up a level with the launch of Eagle F1 SuperSport, a new range of ultra-ultra-high-performance tires for ultimate performance on the road - and track. Available in SuperSport, SuperSport R and SuperSport RS variants, each a step closer to track day speciality than the last, this range is the ultimate celebration of the Goodyear Eagle brand through more than four decades of evolution.

The latest Eagle line has improved to meet the trends of the automotive industry over the past decade and a half, developing through generations to reach today’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, which gives drivers the performance they’ve come to expect from an Eagle tire while meeting modern noise and emissions standards and catering for the demands of electrified vehicles, too.

Goodyear Eagle is still the choice of many premium manufacturers’ most exciting road cars, too. Between SuperSport and Asymmetric 6, Eagle F1 tires come as standard on performance cars as diverse as the Lotus Emira, Porsche Macan 4 Electric, BMW 1 Series and Audi S5. At the track day end of the range is Eagle F1 SuperSport RS, which was specially designed in collaboration with Porsche for the manufacturers’ RS models like the 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS.

And Eagle F1 SuperSport was chosen also for the new Ferrari 12Cilindri, reigniting a popular partnership that has lasted over four decades as a mid-80s Goodyear ad proudly set out: “Every Formula 1 Ferrari, every Ferrari 328 and every Ferrari Testarossa that comes to America comes on Goodyear Eagles. And only on Goodyear Eagles. Why? Because Mr Ferrari wants it that way.”

1 McLaren official PR: https://cars.mclaren.press/press-kits/f1

automotive,Automotive & Motorcycle News,automotive motorcycle,LATEST NEWS,Eagle,LeMans2025

The tire features Dunlop’s ‘EV Ready’ logo on the sidewall, denoting that, along with every other tire in the Dunlop range, it is suitable for use on electric vehicles as well as ICE-powered cars.

Contributing to its suitability for today’s car parc, which features more electrified vehicles than ever before, Dunlop Winter features a lightweight construction which leads to a reduction in fuel consumption and longer EV range1. This is achieved by decreasing the overall weight of the tire by up to 1 kg, thus reducing rolling resistance.

On snow-covered roads, the tire’s efficient sipe system forces the tread blocks to actively dig into the snow, which helps improve braking distance. Meanwhile, the lateral block edges on the tread pattern help to provide great handling and control on wet roads by pushing water away from the tire’s contact patch area.

Dunlop Winter will be available in fitments for mainstream and city cars. The new Dunlop tire has been designed for drivers who demand long-lasting quality at a fair price. It is part of the brand’s new streamlined range of products along with the All Season 2 launched last year.

Sonia Leneveu, Director Marketing Consumer EMEA, Goodyear: “Dunlop Winter is the latest addition to our new streamlined Dunlop range which aims to help drivers feel assured and confident about driving in varied winter conditions. Throughout 2025, 42 new SKUs will enter the market, increasing the total offering to 233 SKUs and completing the largest UHP summer tire offering in Goodyear’s history.

To meet the increasing demand in Europe’s SUV and EV markets, the new sizes will range from 18 to 23 inches, with 93% of the new SKUs measuring 19 inches or larger, in response to market trends favouring larger rim sizes.

The new SKUs are optimised to fit a wide range of modern vehicles and popular EVs, such as the Volvo EX90, Audi Q7, Range Rover Sport, Tesla Model Y, Polestar 4 and Audi Q8 e-tron. Like all Goodyear tires, Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 is EV-ready thanks to its low rolling resistance which improves efficiency and reduces interior noise, making it ideal for the very latest vehicles coming to market.

Award-winning performance for its class-leading technologies

The 42 SKUs will be introduced through a phased rollout, with 27 fitments launching in the first half of 2025, followed by the additional 15 in the second half of the year. More than 50% of these new SKUs will incorporate Goodyear’s innovative SoundComfort and SealTech technologies. SoundComfort minimises road noise for a quieter, more refined driving experience, while SealTech effectively seals punctures up to 5mm, enhancing both convenience and safety.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6’s low rolling resistance and high load rating makes it optimal for modern SUVs and electric vehicles, which demand more from a tire to maximise range and efficiency. Its EV-ready construction also features a noise-cancelling pattern which reduces road noise by 1 dB(A)1; equivalent to more than a 20% reduction the tire’s actual noise output, for a quieter, more refined driving experience.2

Goodyear’s Dry Stability Plus Technology is also present in the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. This allows the tire to adapt to the road surface and always deliver the optimal amount of grip, traction and stability. In wet conditions, the tire features an advanced resin for optimal road contact, giving the tire excellent wet grip.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 has justified its popularity across Europe with several magazine test wins since its launch, including taking top honours in the prestigious Auto Bild summer tire test in 2023 and the Eco-Master title in the same test for two consecutive years.3

Sonia Leneveu, Director Marketing Consumer Europe, Goodyear, stated: “We’re delighted that the success of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 means we can extend its coverage to even more vehicles in the premium segment. With the continued growth of both the SUV and EV markets in Europe, we’re proud to offer the most comprehensive Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 range to date, ensuring we meet the needs of a wide variety of modern and electric vehicles.”

(1) Internal test, reduction noise compared to predecessor Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5.

(2) A decrease of 1 dB(A) corresponds to a reduction of 21% of the sound power from the noise source.

(3) Auto Bild: 50 summer tires tested, dimension 225/45R18. In recent Nordic magazine tire tests, it has obtained several top positions.

In the latest Finnish Moottori’s1 winter tire test the magazine compares four premium non-studded Nordic winter tires and four budget studded tires. UltraGrip Ice 3 receives the best score among all eight tested tires and is awarded Test Winner.

The new Goodyear tire also ranks top in the latest Finnish Tekniikan Maailma’s2 winter tire test, where it achieves a shared first place among nine tested Nordic friction tires.

Excellent snow and ice performance

According to Moottori1 the test winner UltraGrip Ice 3 has been significantly developed in ice performance compared to its predecessor. The tire showcases best performance in ice handling, ice braking and snow braking. The magazine praises the tire’s “excellent grip on ice and snow” 5. On asphalt the tire delivers the best performance in terms of wet handling, with the editors’ comment “safe and easy to drive in wet” 5.

Moreover, the UltraGrip Ice 3 convinces the experts of the Finnish magazine Tekniikan Maailma’s2 who award the tire with top scores in braking and acceleration on snow. According to the magazine “Goodyear’s grip on ice is at the level of the best friction tires” 5. The editors praise the tire’s “balanced properties in all conditions” 5 and the low noise level.

Balanced overall performance recognized

Goodyear tires also shine in Vi Bilägare’s3 test of non-studded Nordic winter tires. The Swedish automotive publication ranks the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 second overall, highlighting its excellent balanced performance in different winter conditions, commenting “Goodyear is the best choice if you drive mostly on asphalt but still want good grip on ice and snow”. 6

Vi Bilägare3 testers add: “The predecessors have distinguished themselves as Nordic friction tires that perform well on wet roads. The newcomer retains this market position but has also strengthened its winter grip. It performs at the top in terms of starting and braking on snow and exhibits good cornering ability.”6

In addition, Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 achieves the second place among Nordic non-studded tires in the Swedish publication Teknikens Värld4.
