With the introduction of POWERLOAD, Goodyear offers a tyre range with important advanced technologies specifically designed for the needs of compact wheel loaders and small graders.

These compact machines are typically used in construction, materials loading, logistics support and landscaping operations. Therefore, versatility is a key tyre characteristic. Long operating hours mean that driver comfort is an important factor, alongside traction and durability.

Smooth Guard Technology™ headlines the innovations

Goodyear POWERLOAD features the new Smooth Guard Technology, including an extra thick and smooth rubber layer of protection in the shoulder area and sidewall. The advanced technology provides the range with increased robustness supporting improved cut resistance and casing protection. In addition, the new range also features a reinforced sidewall construction giving increased stability and easier manoeuvrability. The new range offers reduced bucket sway in loading operations and offers operators driving precision, confidence, comfort and safety.

The focus on reinforcement and protection continues with protection in the flange cover area. This feature helps to prevent penetration of foreign objects in the area between the rim and tyre, particularly important on building sites where soil, rocks, stones and other debris can create damage to conventional tyres. A new pry-bar notch design helps speed up mounting and removal of tyres, minimising downtime for operators.

The non-directional pattern is further evidence of Goodyear’s focus on efficiency, supporting easier tyre logistics by allowing the positions to be rotated and simplifies stocking for the fleet operator. Goodyear POWERLOAD delivers enhanced traction, essential on construction sites. The design gives superb forward and lateral traction, while the self-cleaning properties help minimise downtime and boost efficiency. The tread pattern is inspired by the well proven Goodyear TL-3A+ for larger (25” rim and above) vehicles and optimised for the 18” and 20” sizes in the POWERLOAD range.

On POWERLOAD, Goodyear has increased the shoulder tread depth compared to previous designs. This supports extended tyre life, mileage and can also contribute to a lower operating cost per hour.

Goodyear’s ELECTRIC DRIVE READY philosophy means the company’s latest tyres can be used on electric vehicles as well as hybrid and conventional diesel engines. The forward-thinking approach also reduces complexity for operators as only one type of tyre needs to be stocked for a range of powertrains.

<pp:quotes><pp:quote>

The company is now bringing its innovative thinking to the vehicles that provide the link between ground and air travel: the airport tractors that manoeuvre aircraft into position.

When leading airport equipment manufacturer TREPEL was developing its powerful CHARGER 380 tractor, it wanted to ensure it was optimised for long distance towing between terminals and remote positions. At busy airports, a tyre issue or puncture on a towing tractor could bring operations to a standstill causing expensive gridlock on the ground and delays or re-routing in the sky. Therefore, TREPEL turned to Goodyear Proactive Solutions to support them in preventing a potential issue before it even happens.

Bellavance David, Research & Development Manager Towbarless Aircraft Tractors at TREPEL said: “We developed the CHARGER 380 as the most advanced, high power and versatile tractor. Our customers prioritise the safety of passengers and want to reduce the time pressure and complexity in the daily operations. We worked with Goodyear to create a ‘plug and play’ solution. Our CHARGER 380 dashboard has hardwiring to enable Goodyear TPMS data integration. This connected Goodyear technology adds to our range of state-of-the-art electronics. TREPEL has already included high levels of connectivity to provide precision when manoeuvring and the addition of TPMS is a perfect complement to our own safety, logistics and operational electronic technology.

Goodyear’s well-proven Heavy-Duty version of its Tyre Pressure Monitoring System was integrated into TREPEL’s dashboard. This is a landmark industry-first for this application of the Goodyear TPMS system, which normally operates through an app or web platform. The TPMS sensor is built into the tyre and will alert the driver immediately if the pressure and temperature deviates from the recommended operating levels. The sensor can be removed and reinstalled when the tyre is changed.

Eric Ghirelli, Product Manager Off-The-Road EMEA, Goodyear Proactive Solutions said: “The TREPEL CHARGER 380 is massively versatile, being able to haul large aircraft such as the Boeing 777 or Airbus A340-600. Its high torque and weight capacity bring additional challenges on the tyre front. The required level of high load capability, coupled with the risk of wear on abrasive taxiways, mean that tyre pressure is key. Especially, the inner tyres are difficult to check visually, so the incorporated Goodyear TPMS gives added peace of mind to the driver and airport operations team.”

When integrated into the TREPEL CHARGER 380 dashboard, Goodyear TPMS brings time savings during inspection routines, during operations and when planning maintenance.

One button on the dashboard will reveal tyre pressure levels at one glance and prevent downtime by altering the operator to potential issues before they arise. This frequent monitoring will extend the tyre life as the correct tyre pressure level promotes a more regular wear pattern.

The TREPEL CHARGER 380 has the highest engine power on the market and can lift an incredible 41 tonnes. Aircraft manufacturers insist on the highest safety requirements for approved towing vehicles and airport operators can issue severe penalties for delays caused by operational issues. This collaboration on TPMS is a step forward in safety, operational efficiency and airport fleet management.

LATEST NEWS,Global,PRODUCTS and SERVICES,Goodyear,Truck and Bus,Industrial, truck industrial aviation

The GEN II versions of the EV-4S and EV-5S bring a range of new technologies to improve efficiency, stability and durability.
</pp:summary>

The EV-4S GEN II has the deep 150-level IND-4 tread thickness, as rated by the Tire and Rim Association (TRA), whereas the 250-level EV-5S has the extra-deep IND-5 marking, the highest rating that the TRA issues. Both of the new tire designs feature the same package of new technologies including new construction and tread features.

The enhanced construction demonstrates a new cavity shape. Goodyear’s engineers have developed this to reduce wear, lowering the cost per hour. The construction of both tires also includes an oversized high strength bead bundle to enhance stability when carrying high loads. This bead area has increased protection to reduce chafing.

This focus on strength and protection extends to the new sidewall design. The sidewall has additional protection where the plies end, also improving durability and stability.

Tire life management is made easier by the new notched tread wear indicator which is highly visible in the smooth tread.
Goodyear launches digital innovations to reduce OTR costs

<pp:caseid>323462</pp:caseid>

Data-based tire management means significant savings thanks to 85% fewer tire-related incidents

Paris, April 23, 2018 – Responding to the digital transformation in the Off-the-Road (OTR) vehicle and equipment industry, today Goodyear is introducing two new digital innovations to help OTR fleets reduce their total cost of ownership.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Heavy Duty is a data-based solution enabling precise, real-time monitoring of tires that, in combination with Goodyear premium tires and services, will help OTR fleets optimize tire performance, reduce downtime and improve total cost of ownership. Goodyear TPMS Heavy Duty prevents tire-related incidents; resulting in reduced machine down time, less breakdown costs and up to 15% more working hours due to tires having the right pressure at all times. This means up to 85% fewer tire-related incidents[1].

Goodyear is also launching an enhanced version of its EMTrack OTR tire performance monitoring system. The significantly enhanced EMTrack system enables faster, even more accurate collection of critical tire data like tread depth, inflation levels and other indicators, helping optimize tire service life, as well as assisting with OTR tire forecasting and budgeting.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty offers great potential economic benefits. As an example, for a wheel loader, annual savings of between 3,000€ and 4,000€ are possible. This is thanks to no longer having to carry out external tire inflation checks, increased tire life of between 10% and 15% and the elimination of tire failures which typically happen once per year1.

“Recent advances in connectivity give us the ability to help our customers optimize their tires usage and cut their costs. OTR machines operate in some of the most hostile environments and tires are an essential part of them. Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty, for example, can help prevent tire inflation loss which is very common. A tire that is 50% under-inflated can reduce tire life by 72%,” said David Anckaert, Vice President Goodyear Commercial Tires Europe. “Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty provides real-time temperature and pressure monitoring. This information is then used by the Goodyear predictive algorithms to predict tire life. This new solution means peace of mind for our OTR customers and helps ensure a much greater return on investment from tires.”

Goodyear Proactive Solutions

Following the launch of Goodyear Proactive Solutions for truck fleets in 2016, Goodyear is extending its digital operations management system to Off-the-Road vehicles.

From racing and airplanes to lunar vehicles, in a history spanning 120 years, Goodyear has consistently enabled new forms of emerging mobility. Goodyear Proactive Solutions fits perfectly in this tradition of innovation.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty features advanced telematics and patented predictive analytics technology, able to monitor tire pressure and temperature and to notify operators on potential issues before they happen. This enables immediate action to be taken to avoid damage and downtime. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors mounted inside the tires constantly monitor tire pressure and temperature, and transmit this information via on-board telematics to a Goodyear server. Here the data is analyzed and operators notified of potential issues before they happen. The data is further provided to predict tire life and plan maintenance.

Estimated savings of over 71,000€ illustrate the benefits of a five-year Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty contract covering four wheel loaders operated by Dutch company ESD-SIC. The savings comprise; 1,100€/year from eliminating bi-monthly inflation checks, 9,700€/year by eliminating tire failures (historically one failure per year) and 17,600€ thanks to increased tire life of between 10% and 15%[2].

A further benefit of Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty is Track & Trace. This is a built-in GPS function allowing fleet managers to locate machines as well as to prevent unauthorized movement or theft.

Maintaining correct tire inflation is essential to ensure optimal vehicle performance. Incorrect tire pressure shortens tire life, causes failures, affects the stability of machines and wastes fuel. The sooner a potential issue is identified, the less risk there is of an expensive unplanned intervention or breakdown, avoiding unnecessary down-time and expensive long-term damage.

The benefits of Goodyear Proactive Solutions are increased tire operating hours, better tire durability, maintained optimal performance levels and reduced tire maintenance costs, in addition to better retreadability. This is thanks to targeted maintenance reports that are generated allowing maintenance to be carried out only on those tires that really need it – saving time and cost.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty has already been successfully deployed in various applications such as dump trucks, wheel loaders and mobile cranes.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions is now available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Goodyear EMTrack

To enrich its value proposition to OTR fleets, including construction operations, Goodyear is also introducing the latest enhanced version of its EMTrack OTR tire performance monitoring system. This newly enhanced OTR tire management tool enables faster, even more accurate collection of critical tire data like tread depth, inflation levels and other indicators, helping optimize tire service life, as well as assisting forecasting and budgeting.

EMTrack is available for construction, mining, quarry and port operations, worldwide.

HOW THEY WORK

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty - How it works

TPMS sensors, which measure both tire pressure and temperature, are fitted to each tire. Signals from each of these sensors are received by an on-board router, which continuously sends this information to the Goodyear server via the mobile network. This data is then analyzed using Goodyear algorithms featuring G-Predict technology developed by a team of Goodyear experts. The server sends daily reports by email to the fleet manager.

In the event of a potential issue, alerts are sent from the server to the fleet manager via email and/or by an app in real time using a graphic showing which tire is affected and how serious the problem is.

Goodyear Proactive Solutions TPMS sensors can be transferred to other tires if replacements are fitted.

The on-board router in the system has a built-in GPS Track & Trace function. This function can identify a machine so it can be pin-pointed on a site or located if stolen.

Later this year Goodyear will launch an additional app for drivers, so that they will also be informed of any issue in real time.

Goodyear EMTrack - How it works

The newly enhanced EMTrack OTR tire performance monitoring system includes a new, hand-held scanning tool that enables Goodyear tire technicians to measure inflation and tread depth faster and more accurately. Captured data automatically uploads securely via Bluetooth to a password-protected cloud for secure data storage. Using the new Goodyear EMTrack App, end users can download easy-to-read, customizable, real-time reports that show tire performance. Tires can be tracked if currently in service, in inventory or have been removed from service. EMTrack also can help predict tire longevity in terms of hours, cost and wear, which helps enable more accurate forecasting and budgeting.

Goodyear OTR Tires

Goodyear produces a very comprehensive range of Off-the-Road tires covering all applications in construction, mining, underground mining and quarrying as well as for port handling equipment and other industrial uses. These tires are supported by a network of fully trained professional service providers offering a wide range of innovative services and management tools.

INTERMAT

The new innovations are being launched at Intermat 2018, which is being held at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center from April 23 to 28, 2018. On the Goodyear stand 5A F 045 displays will highlight the news using hi-tech electronic screens featuring virtual reality and holograms. As well as highlighting Proactive Solutions TPMS Heavy Duty and EMTrack IV, three of Goodyear’s wide range of OTR tires will be featured.

The tires featured include the TL-4A and RM-4B+. The TL-4A tire in size 33.25R29 was developed specifically for the new Volvo A60H 60-ton class articulated dump truck, which meets the growing demand for higher capacity vehicles. The RM-4B+ OTR tire range is for rigid dump trucks operating in severe conditions, offering a high level of wear performance and improved treadwear.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies. It employs about 64,000 people and manufactures its products in 48 facilities in 22 countries around the world. Its two Innovation Centers in Akron, Ohio and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg strive to develop state-of-the-art products and services that set the technology and performance standard for the industry.

For more information about Goodyear and its products, go to www.goodyear.com/corporate

[1] Benefits verified through a real-condition test conducted by Goodyear since June 2016.
