Goodyear UltraGrip range off to a great start this winter with impressive line-up of tire test wins

Four test wins and nine podium places confirm Goodyear's position as one of the leaders in the winter tire category

Goodyear is celebrating after an outstanding performance at a recent series of important winter tire tests by prestigious magazines including a first place in Germany’s Autobild and ADAC². After undergoing vigorous testing in different winter conditions, the UltraGrip range not only managed to secure four first places and nine podium places, it has also received three ‘exemplary’, four ‘very recommendable’ and three ‘recommendable’ labels for tires within the UltraGrip range: the UltraGrip 9, the UltraGrip Performance Gen-1, the UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1, and the UltraGrip Ice 2. These wins confirm Goodyear’s commitment to offering peace of mind for a large range of vehicles and drivers. Let’s take a closer look.

Goodyear UltraGrip 9
As the tire tests demonstrate, the UltraGrip 9 delivers an outstanding performance in the toughest winter situations, with excellent braking capabilities in both wet and dry winter conditions. The tire also won first place in this year’s ADAC winter tire test. According to ADAC², the UltraGrip 9 was best rated in fuel consumption and performed excellently on wet surfaces. They called it a very well balanced winter tire which demonstrates to be especially good on snow. Sister magazine Touring Club Switzerland also called the UltraGrip 9 a very well-balanced tire and ÖAMTC praised its abilities on snow. Autozeitung called the UltraGrip 9 ‘highly recommendable’ and Autobild labelled the tire ‘exemplary’ and gave it a podium place, thanks to its convincing driving performance on snowy and wet roads, high aquaplaning safety and low rolling resistance.

Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen-1
The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 has also received a significant number of compliments. It was the proud test winner of Auto Bild Sportscars due to its dynamic handling performance in all weather conditions. Its stability in lateral grip on wet and snow, good aquaplaning safety, and fuel-saving rolling resistance also bumped it up to number one. No wonder they called the tire ‘exemplary’. The tire also received a podium place in the ADAC tire test with the best rating on snow and fuel consumption and a podium place in Sport Auto , which labelled the tire highly recommendable.

Goodyear UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1
The SUV tire outperformed all competitors and won first place in Auto Bild Allrad . Not only did it call the tire ‘exemplary’, it also praised its strengths on snow, excellent grip on wet surfaces, its short braking distances on dry and wet, low rolling resistance (lowest of all competitors) and its comfortable ride quality. The tire also came third in the German winter test by Auto Strassenverkehr magazine and won a podium place in Auto und Motor Sport with its convincing performance on wintery roads. It also demonstrated to be very reliable on wet surfaces with easy handling in cornering. It therefore labelled the tire ‘recommendable’.

The Nordic One: UltraGrip Ice 2
The UltraGrip Ice 2 was the test winner in Teknikens Värld , outperforming the Nordic range of competitors, with 109 points. After praising the UltraGrip Ice 2’s development spirit, it applauded its good overall performance with desirable handling, especially on snow. The UltraGrip Ice 2 also secured third place in Test World magazine, in Vi Bilägare magazine with a total of 73 points and in Tekniikan Maailma . According to Vi Bilägare, the UltraGrip Ice 2 delivers excellent acceleration and braking on snow. Its braking performance on wet roads is also ‘very good’, with the tire showing high levels of handling and remaining consistent in the tests. Tekniikan Maailma confirms that the braking and acceleration grip is good on ice as well as snow and steering is precise and confident. On wet, Goodyear was the best non-studded Nordic winter tire in the test.
We are very pleased that Goodyear’s drive for innovation, excellent performance and safety has been confirmed by this large range of magazine tests”, said Martijn de Jonge, Brand Director Consumer PBU EMEA. “Especially in winter, when tires are of crucial importance as the weather can be challenging, we can offer peace of mind to a wide range of drivers.”
