Goodyear Racing Notes – ELMS Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone

Goodyear will headline this weekend’s European Le Mans Series action in the United Kingdom, serving as the title sponsor of the Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone. It is the second year that Goodyear has headlined the race, following its return to the calendar last year after a six year absence.

At Silverstone, Goodyear will supply 37 cars across the LMGT3, LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am categories with Goodyear Racing Eagle tires. LMGT3 teams will compete on the Goodyear Racing Eagle Medium compound, which offers the versatility to perform across a wide range of conditions and meet the demands of drivers of varying styles and experience levels.

LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am competitors will race on their own Goodyear Racing Eagle Medium, which has been used extensively in the European Le Mans Series since its introduction at Le Castellet last season.

Silverstone’s high-speed layout is expected to influence race strategy this weekend, with fuel consumption likely to be one of the key factors determining pit stop timing. Goodyear expects LMGT3 teams to single-stint, prioritising outright performance by fitting fresh tires at each stop, while LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am teams may show greater variation in their strategies with some teams choosing to single-stint their tires and others looking to double-stint.

“Silverstone should be a fairly straightforward race from a tire strategy perspective,” said Stephen Bickley, Goodyear Endurance Program Manager. “The high-speed nature of the circuit means fuel consumption will be high, so fuel strategy is likely to be the main factor influencing pit stop timing.

“The tire allocations broadly give teams the flexibility to change tires at every stop, so there is less of a need to stretch a set of tires purely to save time in a pit stop. We therefore expect teams across both categories to largely focus on single-stinting tires. The biggest variable at Silverstone is always the weather, which can quickly change stint lengths and pit stop timing.”

In addition to the slick tires used in dry conditions, teams will have access to the Goodyear Racing Eagle Wet tire, featuring a tread pattern designed to disperse surface water and provide grip in wet conditions.

To build on the excitement for the Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone, Goodyear is bringing its presence to life both on and off the track with a number of activities around the race weekend.

Last weekend, Vector Sport’s #10 car appeared in a special Goodyear Racing livery at automotive cultural hub Caffeine & Machine's Warwickshire site. Caffeine and Machine attracts a community of automotive and racing enthusiasts, making it a fitting setting to showcase the car ahead of the race weekend. The #10 will carry the same Goodyear livery when it takes to the European Le Mans Series race this weekend.

Goodyear will also support the ELMS Charity Run on Friday 11th September. Stacks of Goodyear Racing Eagle tires will mark each kilometre around the circuit, with runners crossing the finish line on the National Pit Straight beneath an inflatable Goodyear arch. All proceeds from the event will support the Luca Guintoli Foundation, which helps families affected by childhood cancer.

Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend in the NASCAR races at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois.
