JMW Motorsport wins LMGTE in ultra-close race
Silverstone hosted the fourth of six rounds of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). G-Drive Racing led from lap 33 of the 128 lap race to take the team’s third win of the season and extend its lead in the standings. In LMGTE, late penalties threatened to upset the finishing order but JMW Motorsport claimed victory to return to a title contending position.
Jean-Eric Vergne set the fastest lap of the 4 Hours of Silverstone towards the end of the race to seal the G-Drive Racing domination of the event. Having taken the lead at the one-hour mark, the team continued to extend their lead as the race progressed, building a margin of over two and a half minutes after the four hours of racing. Racing Engineering was on target for second place until retiring with a mechanical issue but holds second in the standings despite taking no points. AVF by Adrian Valles was also in podium contention during the team’s best run of the season until a racing incident halted progress.
In the LMGTE class, the time between the top trio couldn’t have been much closer, with JMW Motorsport finishing 0.126 seconds ahead of the #88 Proton Competition Porsche after the application of a ten second penalty, a margin equivalent to just six metres on track. Spirit of Race took third after having its own ten second penalty applied. The #88 Porsche retains its lead in the title battle, now followed by JMW Motorsport and #55 Spirit of Race.

"We had great results and great competition today. Congratulations to Ligier for the pole position and also to Oreca for the top-three in the race with the Dunlop car taking the win and fastest lap. It was also great to see the AVF Dallara in sight of a top-three finish as well. We’re looking forward to more close competition at Spa."
The next round of the European Le Mans Series is the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps which takes place on 23rdSeptember.
