Dunlop WEC teams back on championship charge in Germany after Le Mans 24 Hours

Championship: Le Mans points have set title challenges. Jackie Chan DC Racing leads LMP2. Aston Martin Racing close to leaders in GTE classes.

Following the opening 6-hour races and the double-points Le Mans 24 Hours, teams now have six rounds remaining to battle for titles. The next stop on the calendar is the final European round, hosted by Germany at the Nürburgring circuit.

Le Mans extended the “Mighty 38” Jackie Chan DC Racing squad’s lead in the LMP2 standings following the 24 Hour LMP2 win, notable for the second overall placing and race leading status last month. Although the 48 point margin is a big hurdle, rivals have a up to 150 points available before the end of the season, with 36 hours of racing in six different nations, before the title is decided in November. The top ten teams in the standings have all chosen to compete on Dunlop tyres, with the second to seventh placed teams separated by only 14 points.

In LM GTE Pro, the Le Mans class victors are now only eleven points behind the leaders. In GTE Am, the Dunlop-shod Aston Martin Racing Vantage and Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche teams are 14 and 21 points from the top of the table respectively.

All three compounds will make an appearance at the Nürburgring after all three showed great versatility in the heat in France last month, with Dunlop nominating options to best suit the chassis and circuit combinations. The Medium and Medium-plus options will be available for the LMP2 runners. The full range is available to the GTE Pro Aston Martins while the sister ‘Am’ cars have the Soft and Medium tyres. The GTE Am Porsche cars will be running the Medium and Medium-plus compounds. Intermediate and wet options are available should the race be declared wet.

The 6 Hours of Nürburgring round of the FIA World Endurance Championship starts at 13.00 CEST on Sunday 16th July.
