Moto2 and Moto3 InFocus: September

The FIM Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships stay in Europe for round 13 at Misano on 10 September. Two weeks later the teams head to MotorLand Aragon for round 14 on 24 September.

There have been three different winners in Moto2 in the last three rounds, and five in total, with championship leader Franco Morbidelli racking up seven wins. Despite the apparent dominance, the Italian is only 29 points ahead of his main rival Thomas Luthi, winner in Brno, with double race winner Alex Marquez a further 39 points behind in third. Mattia Pasini won last time in Italy, at Mugello, and heads to his home event on the back of securing pole at Silverstone.

Joan Mir also has seven wins to his credit in Moto3, where his results put him in a commanding position, 64 points ahead of triple winner Aron Canet who moved ahead of Romano Fenati following a stunning victory at Silverstone. Fenati himself is a race winner this season, taking victory in round three at COTA, while Dunlop’s ForeverForward leader Andrea Migno is the only other winner, at Mugello in round six.

August Recap – Silverstone record-breakers

Silverstone hosted round 12 where a mix of weather conditions for practice allowed all combinations of tyres to be used. In qualifying, in track temperatures of 31 degrees, tyre performance was good across both classes and saw Romano Fenati take his first pole of the season in Moto3, ahead of championship leader Joan Mir and Gabriel Rodrigo. Mattia Pasini secured a third pole in Moto2 with Alex Marquez second just ahead of series leader Franco Morbidelli.

Near perfect weather greeted the riders and teams for Sunday’s races which saw a record-breaking performance for Dunlop with lap records broken in both classes. Morbidelli set a new Moto2 record on his way to third place, but it was Takaaki Nakagami who took a well-deserved first victory of the year from pole-sitter Pasini. Jorge Martin smashed the lap record on his way to third in the red-flagged Moto3 race, finishing behind Enea Bastianini and race winner Aron Canet, who stormed through the field from 15th and 16th respectively.

#ForeverForward 2017

Dunlop’s #ForeverForward Award has become increasingly close at the top. Andrea Migno’s lead has been reduced to just one point, after Nakarin Atiratphuvapat battled his way through the Moto3 race from 23rd to 14th, and Brad Binder fought back from adversity to improve by 11 positions in Moto2. Top mover though at Silverstone was Aron Canet, who showed great determination in overcoming a 16th place grid start to win the Moto3 race, and elevate himself to ninth in the #FF table.
