Ian ‘Hutchy’ Hutchinson marked his return to Dunlop tyres with a sensational victory in the six lap RST Superbike TT this afternoon. Hutchinson carved his way through the field making good use of the KR106/108 tyres, and with the benefit of a couple of quick pit stops took the lead on lap three, and again on lap five. The Tyco BMW rider went on to win by just over five seconds, after 1 hour and 46 minutes of start to finish action to take his 15th TT win.

‘Hutchy’ who holds the record for five wins in one year which he set on Dunlops in 2010, led home a Dunlop 1-2, leading Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing) to a BMW double. Hickman, the fastest newcomer at the TT in 2014, came within 1.5 seconds of taking his first TT win, but had to give best to the experienced Hutchinson, and settle for second to take his first TT podium.

Lack of practice time around the 37.73 mile TT Mountain course due to bad weather in practice week undoubtedly contributed to the slower lap times today. However it was the absolute lap record holder Michael Dunlop who posted the fastest lap of the race. His 17:15.790, 131.135mph lap set on lap one, was unbeaten despite the fact he was forced to retire at Handley’s from the lead on lap two.

Seeded #1, David Johnson brought the Norton home in seventh place, just ahead of team-mate Josh Brookes, with William Dunlop bringing home his Yamaha in ninth.

Padgett’s Racing’s Bruce Anstey was classified P13, his team-mate Conor Cummins retired on lap five, and lone Honda Racing rider Guy Martin took a tumble at Doran’s on lap one.

Racing continues at the TT tomorrow, with the Monster Energy Supersport Race at 10:45 followed by qualifying for Superstock, Superbike, Lightweight and TT Zero.
