GMT94 and MOTO AIN CRT take EWC Oschersleben Dunlop wins

  • GMT94 Yamaha Racing wins EWC on Dunlops – MACO Racing third
  • 6 Dunlop teams in the top 10
  • Another Superstock 1-2 for Dunlop teams
  • Teams chose a total of 7 tyre options
  • Dunlop Independent Trophy win goes to MOTO AIN CRT

The GMT94 Yamaha team took a second consecutive FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) win in Germany today. The Oschersleben eight-hour endurance race wasn’t quite perfect for the French squad, who started from pole position but won despite taking a stop and go penalty for a pit-stop infringement. The team fell to second but fought back with impressive lap times to win the race with a 30 second margin. In the process of recovering, David Checa set the fastest race lap of 1:26.814, beating the fastest qualifying lap set by his team-mate Niccolò Canepa. MACO Racing Team (Yamaha) finished third having been in podium contention for the majority of the race.

The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) was an early front-runner but an accident dropped the team to 32nd. The crew excels at comebacks and in true SERT style recovered to ninth, scoring valuable points for their championship title campaign. Honda Endurance Racing made a similar recovery. A mechanical problem while in third dropped them well down the order but the team persevered and crossed the line in tenth.

In the Endurance World Cup for Superstock, it was a very similar story for MOTO AIN CRT; also a French Yamaha team, who also took a penalty for a pit-stop issue but managed to hold the lead to win. It was a Dunlop 1-2, with Bol d’Or winners Voelpker NRT48 Schubert-Motors by ERC finishing in second place on the BMW, on the same lap as the class victors. The Dunlop Independent Trophy winner was also MOTO AIN CRT, followed by Voelpker NRT48 with Tati Team Beaujolais Racing in third place.

Teams used a wide variety of tyre option; some five different rear and two different front compounds led to a variety of race strategies including enabling Voelpker NRT48 to triple stint enroute to the podium.

In the overall race, 6 of the top 10 teams chose to compete on Dunlop tyres.

The next round of the series takes place at the Slovakia Ring on 24th June.
