Dunlop takes MXGP win in Indonesia

Shaun Simpson took MXGP victory, with Clement Desalle in third. In MX2 five Dunlop riders finished in the top-ten with Benoit Paturel  scoring enough points to put him third the championship. In the Women’s championship (WMX) Kiara Fontanesi got stuck in mud while second in race one but recovered to finished second in race two, finishing the event in fifth overall.

Shaun Simpson rode a brave race in extreme conditions in Indonesia today in the FIM Motocross World Championship. The Scot rode his Wilvo Yamaha in true Dunlop #ForeverForward style, overtaking five rivals on a track that suffered from torrential rain. Qualifying had already been cancelled, with the gate choice order being decided from free practice times. Race two was cancelled due to the track conditions, with race one therefore deciding the Grand Prix result. Clement Desalle (Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team) rode well for a strong third place, becoming the only rider to appear on both MXGP podiums in 2017. Desalle stays second in the championship standings and has closed the gap by two points to just eight.

In MX2, five Dunlop riders finished race one in the top ten after race two was red-flagged. Benoit Paturel (Kemea Yamaha Yamalube) finished seventh, scoring enough points to put him third in the championship standings.

Kiara Fontanesi got well and truly stuck in race one from second place, recovering to 13th. Race two saw a better result with second putting her fifth in the event overall and championship.

Tyre Choice: Dunlop riders all used Dunlop Geomax MX3S front and rear.

Eddy Seel, Dunlop Event Leader:

“That was a tough event for our riders. The key was staying on two wheels and not getting stuck or crashing – but that is very difficult in these conditions.”

The next Grand Prix of Patagonia Argentina takes place on the track at Neuquen  on 19th March. The soft ground will see Dunlop’s MX11 ‘scoop’ tyre in action for the first time in 2017. Dunlop is recommending the Geomax MX3S front with the MX11 used on the rear.
