Clement Desalle uses Dunlop Geomax MX3S to grip second consecutive MXGP victory
- Clement Desalle wins treacherous MXGP in Russia
- Desalle moves into second in championship standings
- Brian Bogers takes MX2 podium finish for first time in 2017
Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle took the second of his back-to-back wins at the MXGP of Russia today at the Orlyonok track. Torrential rain fell heavily overnight and again during the first MX2 race, leaving an extremely muddy track with standing water. Armed with Dunlop’s Geomax MX3S, Desalle rode to third place in the first race, making his way through the ranks from seventh at the end of the first lap to third by lap 11. In race two, Desalle shone in the technical track conditions and was able to use his Dunlop grip to secure victory as others failed to conquer the elements. His 45 points haul puts him second in the championship standings, 47 points behind the leader with nine events remaining. Wilvo Yamaha Racing’s Arnaud Tonus won Saturday’s qualifying race in very different conditions to race day and finished the weekend seventh overall.
Brian Bogers took his first MX2 podium of 2017 with a third overall on his HSF Logistics Motorsport KTM. The Dutchman finished the races in sixth and second, and was the only rider to finish the second race on the same lap as the race winner in the extreme mud. An accident deprived Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Benoit Paturel of a podium finish this time, but his third place from race one and twelfth in race two were enough to classify him in fourth place overall. He now lies fifth in the standings and closed the gap to his nearest championship rivals. Paturel’s team-mate Alvin Östlund tied on points and was classified fifth, a career best in MX2.
Tyre Choice: Dunlop riders all used Dunlop Geomax MX3S front and rear.
Eddy Seel, Dunlop Event Leader:
“The MX3S worked well – it provided good grip in the very slippery conditions. I’m very happy with Clement’s second win and the move up the table to second place in the championship. It was a good result for Brian Bogers and the HSF team too.”
The next event, the MXGP of Lombardia (Italy), takes place on the track at Ottobiano on 25th June. The track is new to the MXGP calendar. The sand track will see the MX3S front paired with the MX11 sand tyre for the rear.
