Podium lockout for Dunlop Endurance World Championship teams

A third race victory was well earned by the GMT94 Yamaha team who took a commanding win by over a full lap in the inaugural Slovakia Ring round of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). After dropping down the order in the opening stages, GMT94 recovered from 16th to fifth by the end of the first hour. By the eight hour race’s mid-point the squad was in the runner-up position and took the lead with just over two hours left on the clock. Behind, a battle ensued between the two other Dunlop factory teams. Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) ultimately took second place, just 15 seconds ahead of Honda Endurance Racing. The result saw a full set of Dunlop caps on the podium.

Voelpker NRT48 Schubert-Motors by ERC improved on their Superstock second place from Oschesleben to win this time out on the team’s BMW. The Dunlop Independent Trophy top prize was also claimed by the German team. A big crash for Moto AIN CRT effectively ended their title charge, but after repairs the team resumed racing and recovered enough points to take second in the Endurance World Cup for Superstock teams. Tati Team Beaujolais Racing also lost time to accident repairs and finished the race sixth and third in the championship.

In the overall race, 4 of the top 5 teams chose to compete on Dunlop tyres.

The next, and final, round of the series takes place at Suzuka on 30th July where the EWC title will be decided. Dunlop is in a good position approaching the race with SERT leading the standings with 132 points followed by GMT94 Yamaha just one point behind on 131. The nearest rival is 27 points behind with a maximum of 30 points available in Japan.
