#1 in Mileage. The new Dunlop SportSmart2 Max wins Motorrad’s Endurance test

  • Latest Dunlop rated 1st of 6 brands in independent hypersport tyre endurance test
  • Motorrad also rate SportSmart2 Max highly for handling, thanks to latest front tyre design
  • Nearly 60% tyre life remaining after 4000km of intensive performance testing
  • First major test result for Dunlop SportSmart2 Max - launched in March 2017.

Independent motorcycle magazine, Motorrad, has declared the latest Dunlop SportSmart2 Max the leading hypersport tyre for durability and mileage following a rigorous 4000km test that visited five European countries , spanning the Alps to the Pyrenees.

Motorrad conducted the marathon test using 120/70 ZR 17 and 190/55 ZR 17 hypersport tyres from six tyre manufacturers. These were fitted to a fleet of identical Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R bikes.

In launching the replacement for the SportSmart2  , Dunlop focused on applying the learnings from their unparalled success rate in the FIM Endurance World Championship to their latest hypersport tyre. Dunlop has partnered teams such as Suzuki Endurance Racing Team and GMT94 Yamaha to glory, winning every race in this season’s championship so far.

Motorrad clearly agree that Dunlop are the endurance experts stating: “If someone will make a tire purchase from an economic point of view the new SportSmart 2 Max is the best choice. At 4000km, the remaining profile is still 58.5%, so the Max is the test winner in this discipline”

The impressive mileage didn’t compromise performance in the test. Dunlop’s new front tyre design, compound and construction was also praised for great handling.

This construction reduces tyre deformation caused by centrifugal forces at high speed, especially at lean angles, and has been proven to improve front tyre durability by a staggering 25%.*

Motorrad were delighted with the handling, comfortable damping and the pleasing feedback of the SportSmart2 Max, awarding the latest Dunlop a strong overall podium position after the handling and grip tests were considered.

Motorrad results reflect Dunlop’s own testing

It was clear from the wide range of tests that Dunlop’s rigorous testing and evaluation process has delivered a strong step forward. The development team was given the goal of raising the standard in handling, mileage and maneuverability.

Dunlop’s own test results showed a big improvement in several focus areas comparing the SportSmart2 Max versus its well-regarded predecessor.

Most notably, in curved braking the new tyre delivered an 8% improvement in the dry*

The SportSmart2 Max has also proved to be a versatile performer. All the Dunlop test riders reported that the tyre had much lighter handling at low speeds, giving nimble and agile urban handling to complement the tyre’s impressive high speed performance. In testing, the riders graded the maneuverability at over 11% better than its predecessor*

The SportSmart2 Max is one of three new hypersport tyres launched by Dunlop Europe in the last six months. It joins the GP Racer D212 (designed for trackday and racing ) and D213 GP Pro (a road legal tyre designed for pro racers) in Dunlop’s burgeoning hypersport portfolio.
