Dunlop delivers another record-breaking performance at Isle of Man TT

Dunlop confirmed its reputation as the tyre to have at the Isle of Man TT, as it swept to a 13th consecutive Senior TT victory today (Friday 8 June). Dunlop rider Peter Hickman (Smith's Racing BMW) took a sensational second TT win of the week, the KR106/108 slick tyres allowing him to smash the outright lap record, to record the first 135mph lap of the 37.73 mile Mountain Course.
His fastest lap of 16:42.778, a speed of 135.452mph was nine seconds faster than the previous Dunlop record set by Michael Dunlop in 2016. Hickman also set four fastest sector times on the final lap of the six-lap race, as he chased down the leader and swept ahead in the final few miles to finish the race in record time.
Joining Hickman on the podium was Conor Cummins. The Padgetts Motorcycles Honda rider ecorded his second TT podium of the week and set a cracking pace throughout the race to finish third. Michael Dunlop, winner of Saturday’s RST Superbike race and Monday’s opening Supersport race brought his Tyco BMW home in fourth place.
Dunlop riders took four of the top five places, with Josh Brookes riding the Norton to fifth place. Notable retirements include the Honda Racing duo of Lee Johnston who retired on lap two with technical issues, and Ian Hutchinson who retired on lap four as he felt he was unable to complete the full race distance.
The Senior TT brings the Isle of Man TT to a close and see Dunlop claim records across all classes, with five race wins, 12 podium finishes, four lap record and two race records.
