Dunlop celebrates BTCC auction success, raising 4k for Macmillan Cancer Support

Dunlop, official sponsor and sole tyre supplier to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, has raised just short of £4000 thanks to the generosity of BTCC fans around the world.

Dunlop organised three BTCC-related auctions over the season finale at Brands Hatch via its official eBay account with all funds going to Dunlop’s corporate charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

The auctions contribute to Dunlop’s total of more than £56,000 to the charity, which aims to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer, and to inspire millions of others to do the same.

Dunlop commissioned BTCC Diamond Jubilee original artwork by contemporary British automotive artist Ian Cook of Popbangcolour, which was created at Snetterton’s 60th anniversary round in June. The artwork was created by painting with radio-controlled cars, toy car wheels and Dunlop tyres instead of traditional paintbrushes and was signed by the 2018 BTCC drivers. The original artwork raised £2550.

A second auction for a limited edition 2m x 1m box canvas of the artwork, and a set of Dunlop road tyres raised £630.

The third auction included a signed A1 print of the artwork and a pair of season tickets to the 2019 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and raised £810.

Andy Marfleet, Marketing Director of Dunlop UK: “Thanks to the generosity of our BTCC fans, I’m delighted to have raised such a significant amount for Macmillan Cancer Support. It’s such a worthwhile charity and one that Dunlop works very closely with. As a result of this amount raised over the incredible Brands Hatch BTCC season finale, we have now achieved over £56,000 of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support in total with over £12,000 being raised in 2018 alone. On behalf of everyone at Dunlop and Macmillan, I’d like to thank everybody who put in a bid, and all those that helped promote the auctions.”

Ian Cook, Popbangcolour: “I was incredibly pleased with the response to the auctions, and delighted to have helped raise such a wonderful amount for Macmillan Cancer Support. At Brands Hatch we had a lot of people coming to see the original artwork first-hand, which was on display on our trade stand. Thank you to everyone that bid!”
