Innovation at Goodyear isn't just what we do, it's who we are

Back then and today

In 1898 Frank Seiberling founded Goodyear. Back than the company’s focus was on bicycle and carriage tires, horseshoe pads and poker chips. In 1900 the production of passenger tires was added being little more than oversized bicycle tires in line with the industry standards at the time. Looking for of continuous improvement Goodyear created an improved design and started the legacy of innovation that Goodyear is known for today.

Today innovation is part of who we are and everything we do with one key objective, fulfil the current and future needs of our customers and consumers across the world. Goodyear is very conscious of staying at the forefront of the industry and driving innovation. The company has two innovation centers, one in the US in Akron, Ohio and one in Europe in Luxemburg at Colmar-Berg, on top Goodyear also has three development centres in Hebron (Ohio), Hanau (Germany) and Pulandian (China).

At the Goodyear Innovation Center in Luxembourg (GIC*L), more than 900 engineers, scientists and technicians of 29 different nationalities are working on all aspect of the tire such as new raw materials, tread designs and compounds. Worldwide our researchers are responsible for thousands of patents, with inventions and breakthroughs used not only in tires but also in adhesives, food packaging and even artificial hearts.

Designing and developing new technologies and innovative products

Goodyear has a broad portfolio of award- and test-winning passenger and commercial tires. Our source of inspiration are the evolving consumer needs now and in the future. Therefore Goodyear’s scientists, engineers, research analysts and marketing experts work as one team to identify upcoming market trends and address these by developing new state-of-the art technologies.

The tire design process consists of research and development, extensive quality control, tailor-made engineering, on-time manufacturing and getting the right tires at the right time to our OEM customers and end consumers in the replacement market. The process includes multiple lab and track tests on our proving grounds in the US, France and Finland as well as durability test and winter tire testing in all parts of the world.

Concept tires are the source of inspiration to address Future Mobility needs

Our latest concepts explore how smart safety features, vehicle and infrastructure connectivity and autonomous capabilities could allow tires to drive and energize the cars of the future.

Goodyear’s concept tires play a dual role in the future both as creative platforms to push the boundaries of conventional thinking and testbeds for next-generation technologies. With our concept tires, we want to stimulate discussion on the extensive engineering possibilities offered by tires today and how they could play a role in developing and delivering the mobility of tomorrow.

Concepts tires are integral to Goodyear’s work with partners and original equipment manufacturers.
